THE ALLMAN BROTHERS BAND
CONFIRM SUMMER TOUR PLANS
INCLUDING SIX CO-HEADLINING DATES WITH SANTANA
GROUP TO REISSUE 1970 SHOW
“LIVE FROM AMERICAN UNIVERSITY”
MAY 8 VIA PEACH RECORDS/ENTERTAINMENT ONE MUSIC
The ALLMAN BROTHERS BAND continue to celebrate the “Year Of The Peach” with more live shows just announced. The band has confirmed six co-headlining dates with SANTANA (see all dates below) as well as one-off festival dates, their own Peach Festival in Scranton, PA and dates with moe. and Lynyrd Skynyrd.
The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductees started the year with a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award in February, followed by 10 sold-out shows at New York City’s Beacon Theatre. In April, the band headlined their annual three-day Wanee Festival in Florida. The “Year Of The Peach” marks the 40th anniversary of the group’s iconic 1972 live album EAT A PEACH.
The band–GREGG ALLMAN (vocals and keyboards), BUTCH TRUCKS (drums and tympani), JAIMOE (drums), WARREN HAYNES (vocals, lead and slide guitar), DEREK TRUCKS (slide and lead guitar), OTEIL BURBRIDGE (bass) and MARC QUINONES (congas and percussion)–are particularly excited about the dates with SANTANA, with whom they’ve only performed at various festivals. “We’ve all wanted to do this for a very long time,” says GREGG ALLMAN. “It’s been a long time coming and the whole band is looking forward to what’s gonna happen on stage together.” Tickets for these shows go on sale later this week (see below).
“It is a delight and an honor to finally share the stage, and the music, with Gregg Allman, Derek Trucks, Warren Haynes and The Allman Brothers Band,” says Carlos Santana. “This is something that we’ve hoped to make happen for many years.”
In other ALLMAN BROTHERS BAND news, the group has announced another gem from their archival series of releases: LIVE FROM AMERICAN UNIVERSITY (12/30/1970). Out of print for several years since it was first released, the album was recorded just three months before their LIVE AT FILLMORE EAST album, which would cement the group’s reputation as one of the best live rock bands. The AMERICAN UNIVERSITY album (out May 8 via Peach Records/Entertainment One Music) features the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame band’s original lineup: GREGG ALLMAN (vocals and keyboards), DUANE ALLMAN (slide and lead guitar), BUTCH TRUCKS (drums and tympani), JAIMOE (drums), DICKEY BETTS (slide and lead guitar) and BERRY OAKLEY (bass).
