The “RE:GENERATION MUSIC PROJECT,” an official selection of the SXSW Film Festival, will be exclusively available on the free, ad-supported Hulu and the Hulu Plus subscription service beginning today, Monday, March 12. In the film, acclaimed musicians The Crystal Method, DJ Premier, Pretty Lights, Mark Ronson and Skrillex use technology to mix musical styles and genres for the creation of five original tracks that are nothing short of magical. The film will be featured as Hulu’s “Documentary of the Month” during March and April, and will available on the premium online video service through March 2014. Hyundai served as the benefactor of “RE:GENERATION MUSIC PROJECT,” in association with The GRAMMY®s, as a joint commitment to celebrate innovation in music.
As an official selection of the SXSW 2012 Film Festival, “RE:GENERATION MUSIC PROJECT” is one of eight films screened in the Special Events category, which offers unusual, unexpected and unique film one-off events. Directed by award-winning documentarian Amir Bar-Lev (The Tillman Story, My Kid Could Paint That), “RE:GENERATION MUSIC PROJECT” enjoyed a unique nationwide, one-night only event in over 180 theaters nationwide on February 16, 2012 with encore screenings on February 23rd.
Commissioned by Hyundai as the official vehicle partner of the GRAMMY®s, the film follows five electronic DJs/producers as they turn the tables on the history of music. In the film, the now three-time GRAMMY®-winning artist Skrillex heads into a Los Angeles studio with members of the iconic rock band The Doors to collaborate on a new song, “Breakin’ A Sweat.” Meanwhile, The Crystal Method touched down in Detroit to work with Martha Reeves of The Vandellas and two-time GRAMMY® winners, The Funk Brothers on the R&B number, “I’m Not Leaving.” Three-time GRAMMY® winner Mark Ronson created a southern brew of New Orleans jazz in “A La Modeliste” that boasts a veritable all-star cast of four-time GRAMMY® winner Erykah Badu, Trombone Shorty, Mos Def, Zigaboo Modeliste and members of The Dap Kings. DJ Premier tapped NAS and Boston’s very own Berklee Symphony Orchestra for his “Regeneration,” and the documentary culminates in Nashville on the dusty intergalactic twang of Pretty Lights’ “Wayfaring Stranger” featuring vocals from two-time GRAMMY® winner LeAnn Rimes and three-time GRAMMY® winner Dr. Ralph Stanley.
In addition, Hulu will publish five clips describing Hyundai’s behind-the-scenes involvement in the making of Re:Generation. Hulu will include an exclusive selection of excerpts from these clips as 60-second interstitial and 30-second pre-roll featurettes within every ad-supported stream of the film. The film is a GreenLight Media & Marketing production in association with RSA Films.
