COMEDY HEAD-SPINNINGLY COLLIDE
PRESENTS AN EVENING OF AZTEC HORROR!!!
THURSDAY, OCTOBER 35 & FRIDAY, OCTOBER 26 – THE MAYAN – DOWNTOWN LA
TICKETS ON SALE NOW
“The mix of Mexican wrestlers and nouveau burlesque queens that seemed so improbable when Lucha VaVOOM debuted in 2002 is now proven entertainment. After a decade, cofounders Rita D’Albert and Liz Fairbairn still draw crowds three or four times a year with their camp spectacle of bone rattling body slams and shaking moneymakers.”
–Elina Shatkin, LOS ANGELES MAGAZINE, May 2012
The Mayan calendar says it’s time to party like it’s 2012 so kick off your Halloween season with LUCHA VAVOOM’s “Aztec Horror!” shows Thursday, October 25 and Friday, October 26 at the Mayan Theatre (1038 S Hill St.) in downtown Los Angeles. Tickets for the acclaimed and mind-blowing Mexican masked wrestling/burlesque/comedy ensemble–which “has the pacing of a prison break” (Los Angeles Times, 3/10/12)–are on sale now.
These shows are part of LUCHA VAVOOM’s year-long 10th anniversary celebration and will include “The Attack Of The Haunted Hairdo” featuring the LUCHA VAVOOM debut of New York City’s Julie Atlas Muz and partner Mat “Sealboy” Fraser aka “The Freak and the Showgirl,” the cabaret comedy sideshow spectacle. The “Aztec Horror!” shows will also feature Mexico City’s Dr. Cerebro and Mexican Warrior and LUCHA VAVOOM favorites Aztec Princess Karis, Sexy Mummy Moana Santana, Smooth Black Panther Lux Lacroix, Egyptian Queen Leigh Acosta, Zombie Chickens, El Presidente, OJO DEL MAL and an all minis match between: Li’l Zombie Chicken, The Green Fuzz, Li’l Devil and Chupacabrita. Blaine Capatch—named by Rolling Stone as one of the top 25 funniest people on Twitter–will be hosting the show along with Evil Genius Greg Proops and Dana Gould’s alter ego Charles St. Charles. DJ Howie Pyro will be the special guest DJ. Howie has DJ’d for everyone from The Cramps to Christina Aguilera’s 21st birthday party, huge Hollywood events, fashion shows and Santerian Priest inductions, and has played, written and/or performed with Danzig, Debbie Harry, Johnny Thunders, Ronnie Spector, Rancid, Joey Ramone, Genesis P. Orridge, Kid Congo Powers, and many more.
At Lucha VaVOOM, they like a little sexo with their violencia. In between matches, the finest handpicked burlesque acts from around the world wow the crowds with their unique striptease skills, including raucous aerial acts, pogo-stick peelers and hula-hoop hotties. The brainchild of founders/co-producers Rita D’Albert and Liz Fairbairn, LUCHA VaVOOM is celebrating its 10th anniversary this year. “This isn’t about reality,” exclaims D’Albert. “It’s escapism in its purist form…I feel like I’ve done my job when the people in the audience see a little mini chicken who last night was a ghost version of himself because it’s Halloween.”

–Here’s a sampling of what the press had to say about last year’s shows:
“The finest purveyors of sexo y violencia in the land…”
–Daniel Siegal, Brand X/ThisisBrandX.com, May 5, 2011
“Over the course of human history, many incredible triumphs have been created out of the pairing of two seemingly unrelated things. Moving images and sound. Needle and thread. Lennon and McCartney. Chocolate and peanut butter. And such is the case with the combination of Mexican wrestling (lucha libre) and burlesque dancing. That is what Lucha VaVoom is all about: sexo y violencia…”
–Zach Hines, The Campus Circle, May 4, 2011
“…a raucous and irreverent extravaganza of burlesque, comedy and classic Mexican luchadore wrestling…The evening had the feel of an unhinged circus, as an increasingly rowdy crowd (which included “Cheech and Chong” legend Cheech Marin), watched the rudos (the “bad guy” wrestlers) take on the tecnicos (the “good” guys) in bouts that were equal parts comedic jest and brilliantly choreographed feats of costumed athleticism.”
–Katie Bain, Huffingtonpost.com, August 19, 2011
“Promising “A Super Sexo Y Violencia Fiesta,” the Lucha VaVOOM Cinco De Mayo Spectacular at the Park West in Lincoln Park did not disappoint. Helmed by a pair of wisecracking emcees seated behind a professional wrestling ring, the event attracted a packed house, many of whom were clad in their fave grappler’s signature masks. And throughout the night, when the emcees chanted “Lucha!” the educated crowd exploded with “VAVOOM!!”
–John Thomas, Time Out Chicago, May 6, 2011

The FACE (U.K.)
“A madcap mix of Mexican wrestling, comedy, and vintage burlesque.
I love, love, love it.”
Vanity Fair
“With this perfectly balance evening of sex, comedy & comicbook
violence, the populace of earth deserves nothing less than a global
tour. Everyone needs a little Lucha VaVoom in their life.”
