World-renowned Russian producer PROXY has unleashed the final chapter of his MUSIC FROM THE EASTBLOCK JUNGLES series, his two-part debut album. Available now on Dim Mak Records in North America and on Turbo Recordings internationally, MUSIC FROM THE EASTBLOCK JUNGLES PART II takes fans on his next journey of dark synths and vibes. The first half of the album, MUSIC FROM THE EASTBLOCK JUNGLES PART I, is available now.
Today (February 13), PROXY has partnered with Noisey, Vice’s new music channel, to premiere the music video for “Raw,” a single from MUSIC FROM THE EASTBLOCK JUNGLES PART I. Directed by Yoonha Park, the video perfectly depicts the grim and oppressive world in which the MUSIC FROM THE EASTBLOCK JUNGLES series was created. Featuring images of self-inflected tattoos, Russian military propaganda videos and sweaty, underground confinements, the “Raw” music video conveys borderline insanity and commands an all-out social revolt. Watch the “Raw” music video on Noisey here: http://noisey.vice.com/music-video-premieres/proxy-raw.
PROXY recently teamed with leading U.K. electronic dance and clubbing magazine Mixmag for the official premiere of MUSIC FROM THE EASTBLOCK JUNGLES PART II, crowning the album Electro Album of the Month with a 5 out of 5 review and calling the release “a sterling showcase of the Russian producer’s slamming take on electro. You have been warned. This one’s a ripper.” (2/8/13). Adds global electronic dance music magazine DJ Mag (2/4/13), “Proxy’s radioactive technoid sketches demand to be heard.” Stream MUSIC FROM THE EASTBLOCK JUNGLES PART II in full at Mixmag here: http://www.mixmag.net/music/mp3-blog/stream-proxy. PROXY also recently collaborated with Spinner (Aol Music) to give away a free MP3 download of “Cooper,” a b-side track to be featured in an upcoming EP out in spring. Check out what the press is saying about PROXY and the MUSIC FROM THE EASTBLOCK JUNGLES series:
“…a progressive concoction of electro techno and drum n’ bass. Without losing the modernity of his production, Proxy includes the raw sounds that inundated the ‘90s UK rave scene…His engagement in such reconstruction has resulted in an experimental sound atypical to EDM’s current scene of dubstep and trap.”
—Gabrielle Nicole Pharms, LIFE + TIMES (2/8/13)
“…one of the finest slices of noisy EDM hostility we heard all year.”
—VIBE.COM (12/11/12)
“Produced in the isolated ‘Eastblock Jungle’ of his Russian hometown, Proxy’s double-album opus reveals his inspiration from The Prodigy’s furious electro aggression.”
—ELEKTRO MAGAZINE (Winter 2013)
“From thunderous opener ‘Red Juke’ – a techno play on Darth Vader’s imperial march – to ambient closer ‘Nanomed’, there’s an unmistakably militaristic running through Music From The Eastblock Jungle, a darkness which invokes Russia’s recent history, its unforgiving climate, and all of the dystopian anti-communist prophecies which the West have ever hurled its way…Echoes of the Prodigy’s furious, synthpunk aggression can be found throughout Proxy’s work –particularly evident here on deep-bass romp ‘Raja Ganja’, lilting dub ‘In Time (Skit)’, and brooding rollercoaster ‘Shut Up!’…It’s been well worth the wait, and this collection of hit releases, rarities and new tracks comes together to paint an evocatively grim picture of Proxy’s Russia.”
—Kat Rolle, DROWNED IN SOUND (U.K.) (2/5/13)
“Russian DJ Proxy continues his exploration of dark techno for zombies with this dozen track release. If the chanting robotized chants of ‘entrails’ on the opener Blood don’t make clear what’s the general tone of the music, perhaps Coke and Parasite will. This is mutant dance music for people whose lives are the club and it is pan-global in scope from Kamuyi to the aptly-titled Indian Film. I’m sure it was a vampire action dance romance movie.”
—Stuart Derdeyn, THE PROVINCE (CANADA) (2/5/13)
“…a dark, digital percussive journey into Proxy’s secluded underworld, one filled with bowel-shaking bass drops, mind-melting synth lines, sporadic vocal stabs and sirens. Lots of sirens.”
—Dave Wedge, SOCIETEPERRIER.COM (12/4/12)
“…well suited as the soundtrack of the apocalypse.”
—Justin Olsen, NITEGUIDE (January 2013)
“Proxy’s technique of distracting the listener with a bit of quirkiness is a clever one; it allows the beats to take over so stealthily that before you realize what’s going on you’re locked in a blissful groove.”
—Kevin Wierzbicki, CAMPUS CIRCLE (1/14/13)
