The RE:GENERATION MUSIC PROJECT produced in association with The GRAMMYs® examines the history of different music through the eyes of five of the most influential electronic producer/DJ’s in music today. Mark Ronson, DJ Premier, The Crystal Method, Pretty Lights and Skrillex each take a specific musical style and explore it by writing and recording a brand new track with a grouping of influential collaborators in that genre. The stories of these five DJs are woven together in a feature documentary and as of today, Thursday, October 27, four of the five tracks by DJ Premier, The Crystal Method, Pretty Lights and Skrillex recorded for the film due February 2012 world premiere at YouTube

Mark Ronson’s song “A La Modeliste” featuring Erykah Badu, Mos Def, Trombone Shorty, members of The Dap Kings and Zigaboo Modeliste will be revealed very shortly. All the tracks will be available for free download via the RE:GENERATION DJ Mixer App launching November 7. The project will be showcased online and at a series of live events including music and film festivals, as well through other media and distribution channels sponsored by Hyundai Veloster over the next several months.
The entire experience comes to life in the RE:GENERATION feature documentary directed by award-winning documentarian Amir Bar-Lev (“My Kid Could Paint That,” “The Tillman Story”). Along the way, these five DJ/producers journey to hotbeds for each genre including New Orleans for jazz, Nashville for country, Los Angeles for rock, Boston for classical and Detroit for R&B. For example, you’ll find Denver-based Pretty Lights traveling to Nashville, visiting the Country Music Hall of Fame and going into the studio with the legendary Dr. Ralph Stanley and LeAnn Rimes for “Wayfaring Stranger.” Skrillex teams up with Ray Manzarek and Robby Krieger along the Venice Boardwalk in Los Angeles and then later collaborates on “Breakn’ A Sweat” with John Densmore for what will amount to the first original recording featuring members of The Doors** since An American Prayer was released in 1978.
Martha Reeves of the Vandellas and The Funk Brothers get a visit in Detroit from breakbeat pioneers The Crystal Method for an R&B horn sassy and down-bass “I’m Not Leaving”; Mark Ronson heads to Piety Street Studios and Preservation Hall in New Orleans to meet up with Erykah Badu, Mos Def, Trombone Shorty, members of the Dap Kings and Zigaboo Modeliste to record a raw jazzy number with “A La Modeliste”; and DJ Premier heads down the Paul Revere trail from Boston where he conducted the Berklee Symphony Orchestra to his New York City studio to capture lyrics by NAS for “Regeneration.”
Presented by Hyundai Veloster in association with The GRAMMYs®, the RE:GENERATION MUSIC PROJECT crosses the most unexpected generations and genres in today’s most innovative form of music creativity. Hyundai’s role as the project’s benefactor not only supports the artists, but is creating an ambitious platform that challenges artists to fashion something they might not otherwise have imagined for these captured ‘fish out of water’ moments. Scott Kirkland of The Crystal Method puts it best, “There is no sound we can’t make. There’s not a beat we can’t create. There’s not an artist we can’t record…Now what?” “You just put me in a whole different way on how to listen,” adds DJ Premier.
The RE:GENERATION MUSIC PROJECT is being produced by GreenLight Media & Marketing, LLC.
