Meanwhile, the pair just wrapped studio time contributing music for Real Steel (www.steelgetsreal.com). For themajor sci-fi motion picture starring Hugh Jackman and due in both conventional and IMAX theaters October 7,Kirkland and Jordan worked with legendary composer Danny Elfman on the score for several key fight scenes. TCMalso produced “Put ‘Em Up” featuring emerging Southern rapper Yelawolf for the film’s soundtrack. Another track,“Undefeated,” will be used in the film, but will not appear on the soundtrack.
“The director Shawn Levy approached us and asked if we could work on two of the major fight scenes in the movie,” saysTHE CRYSTAL METHOD. “We love scoring to film and these scenes were awesome! This is some of our best work ever. We even ended up working on one scene with Danny Elfman. “Put ‘Em Up” is going to be on the soundtrack album, and we were lucky enough to get Yelawolf to add a vocal. There’s so much energy in that track. We can’t wait ’til everyone gets a chance to hear it.”
Most recently, THE CRYSTAL METHOD we’re featured artists on this summer’s debut of IDentity Festival, presented by Skullcandy (www.IDfestival.com), the first-ever touring electronic-ONLY music festival that hit major outdoor amphitheatres throughout North America in August and September. They also collaborated with Machinima.com, the next generation video entertainment network for video gamers, to launch The Machinima Music Video Series with the exclusive world premiere of a game-based animated music video for the never-before-released track “Play For Real” by THE CRYSTAL METHOD featuring The Heavy and directed by Machinima director Kootra. A digital EP including remixes of the song by Dirtyphonics, Le Castle Vania, Left/Right & Digital Pizza and Team Awesome is available now via TCM‘s own Tiny e Records. About THE CRYSTAL METHOD:
Heralded by the Village Voice as “one of the best live dance acts on Earth,” THE CRYSTAL METHOD—who is Ken Jordan and Scott Kirkland—have been known for over a decade for their enduring dance floor anthems (“Now Is The Time,” “Keep Hope Alive”), airwave smashes (“Trip Like I Do”) and a willingness to collaborate with an array of talent–including rock’s elite like Scott Weiland, Matisyahu, New Order’s Peter Hook, Emily Haines of Metric and Filter’s Richard Patrick. The duo has dominated the remix, film soundtrack, television, gaming and advertising worlds, most recently helping Victoria’s Secret drop jaws with music for a TV commercial campaign. Their platinum-status debut album Vegas (released in 1997) is one of the biggest-selling electronic albums of all time, landing them in the top five of best-selling electronic acts in America. They scored the film London as well as the themes for TV shows “Bones” and “Third Watch” and were the first act to work with Nike for their running soundtrack series. Their most recent album, the Grammy-nominated Divided By Night, was released in 2009. Look for more exciting things to come from the pair soon.
