On Saturday, April 21 at 8:00 PM, influential Sunset Strip landmark THE COMEDY STORE will celebrate 40 years of laughs with a star-studded comedy show featuring rising comedians of today and famous alums in attendance.
The lineup includes performances by Comedy Central “Roastmaster” Jeffrey Ross, Paul Rodriguez, Louie Anderson, Paul Mooney, local NBC weatherman and former Comedy Store performer Fritz Coleman, Argus Hamilton, Dom Irrera, Jimmy Shubert, Tony Clifton, ventriloquist Willie Tyler & Lester, Comedy Store co-founder and comedian Sammy Shore, Chris Spencer, Guy Torry, Don Barris, Natasha Leggero, John Caparulo, Rick Ingraham, Brian Holtzman, Taylor Negron, Jeff Altman and Carrie Snow.
The night will also feature special video tributes from Comedy Store alums Robin Williams, David Letterman, Jay Leno, Marc Summers, Pauly Shore and Marc Maron. And in true Comedy Store fashion, guests should be prepared for surprise guests throughout the night.
“The Comedy Store is going to take the audience on a journey through each of the decades as Comedy Store veterans of past and present come back to celebrate and honor the 40 years of laughter that Mitzi has created,” noted Mark D. Turocy, producer of the 40th anniversary show. “Many unexpected surprises to come!”
The Comedy Store (8433 Sunset Blvd.) was founded on April 7, 1972 by Sammy and Mitzi Shore and became known as the place to both become a better comedian and become a commercial success, with scouts from “The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson,” film and television productions and talent agencies regularly in attendance. Richard Pryor, Robin Williams, David Letterman, Jay Leno, Andy Kaufman, Jim Carrey, Sam Kinnison, Roseanne Barr, Andrew “Dice” Clay, Chris Rock and Dave Chappelle all called The Comedy Store home. More recently, The Comedy Store has helped launch the careers of Whitney Cummings (“Whitney”), Al Madrigal (“The Daily Show”), Jeff Garlin (“Curb Your Enthusiasm”), Steve Rannazzisi (“The League”), Bobby Lee (Harold & Kumar Go To White Castle, Pineapple Express) and Sarah Silverman.
