Distinguished as the final musical celebration of the annual U.S. music festival season, next year’s VOODOO EXPERIENCE will mark VOODOO’s 14th consecutive year. The 2012 Halloween weekend line-up will feature top-tier and innovative artists from a variety of musical genres, plus reflect the multitude of cultures that define this historic and beloved American city. Once again, concert-goers will worship the music throughout VOODOO’s three unique performance areas: Le Plur, VOODOO’s dedicated dance space which celebrates an amazing list of electronic talent from around the world; Le Ritual where the main stage worships the music of the world’s most renowned artists; and Le Flambeau’s two performance spots (Preservation Hall Tent and the WWOZ Stage) which honor the roots and history of New Orleans music and its inspiration on others. Each of VOODOO’s individual performance areas is enhanced by the use of interactive art set amid City Park’s lush lagoons, bayous and one of the largest collections of mature oak trees in the world.
Here are some quotes about this year’s (2011) THE VOODOO EXPERIENCE PRESENTED BY STEPHEN REHAGE:
“…it was easy to see why this city remains perpetually proud of not only its own storied music history, but its ability to throw one hell of a cool Halloween party.”
— Rolling stone.com, 10-31-11
“Voodoo Music Experience Hypnotizes New Orleans…New Orleans’ Voodoo Music Experience has become a Halloween weekend tradition, bringing some of the biggest artists on the map to the Big Easy for a three-day throwdown…flipping through this gallery counts as a SPIN-approved way to celebrate Halloween.”
— Spin.com, 10-31-11
“The 13th annual, three-day Voodoo Fest wrapped up Sunday, Oct. 30, before 10 p.m., but don’t let that early night fool you. Anyone who attended from start to finish took in more than 35 hours of live music since the gates opened Friday at 10 a.m., with headliners, such as Soundgarden, Blink-182, The Raconteurs, Ray Davies, Cheap Trick, The Original Meters…Music fans tucked into South Louisiana dishes from the line of food booths, enjoyed a great view of the city skyline from a Ferris wheel and tried to make a mechanical bird flap its wings at one of the dozen art installations at the Voodoo Music Experience site in City Park.”
—Nola.com, 10-31-11
“This year’s Voodoo came as close as it ever has yet to realizing the idea of integrating the larger rock/pop world with New Orleans music…the gap between acts meant that the people who used to spend the day camped between stages went to the other stages more.”
—Offbeat (LA), 10-31-11
“Voodoo Experience works usual magic to close…Sunday’s rich and varied music at the final day of the city’s annual Halloween weekend music festival, Voodoo Experience…”
—The Advocate (Baton Rouge), 10-31-11
“Now (appropriately) in its 13 year on the grounds of City Park, Voodoo continues to prove why it’s one of the longest-running festivals in the Southeast and still one of the most popular. In fact, Voodoo’s popularity spans from audience members to performers alike…It’s everything beyond the music, though, that makes Voodoo a unique experience for festival-goers…”
—The Birmingham News (Alabama) 10-31-11
