“Fifteen years ago we started an experiment dubbed ‘worship the music,’ a project designed to follow and celebrate the drumbeat first heard in Congo Square and the evolution into what many would consider today’s modern music,” says Stephen Rehage, the founder/producer of VOODOO. “Out of those efforts came the Voodoo Music + Arts Experience, a musical experiment dedicated to people who love great music of all kinds. Voodoo’s a place where you see Preservation Hall Jazz Band playing ‘St James Infirmary,’ while just across the field 73,000 people are singing along to Rage Against the Machine’s ‘Killing in the Name Of,’ or the spontaneous pairing of something like the Red Hot Chili Peppers performing a 12-minute unrehearsed version of ‘Clap Your Hand Say Yeah’ with the Original Meters. What started as an experiment is, now fifteen years later, something we are proud to share.”
The 15th anniversary VOODOO celebration will mark the debut of City Park’s Festival Grounds, a new permanent home for VOODOO. Home to the VOODOO since its 1999 debut–with the exception of 2005 VOODOO which was displaced by the city’s hurricane damage–New Orleans’ 1,300 acre City Park is the region’s principal recreation site that attracts over seven million visitors each year.
VOODOO is distinguished as the final musical celebration of the annual U.S. music festival season, and the 2013 VOODOO 15th anniversary weekend line-up will feature top-tier and innovative artists from a variety of musical genres, plus reflect the multitude of cultures that define this historic and beloved American city. Once again, concert-goers will worship the music at VOODOO’s six unique performance areas, each of which is enhanced by the use of interactive art.

Here’s some critical feedback on this year’s (2012) VOODOO MUSIC + ARTS EXPERIENCE:
“The Voodoo Music + Arts Experience is bringing a European music festival experience to New Orleans with overnight tent camping and more Euro-dance-based acts to its stage…The lineup for the three-day festival, which starts Friday at New Orleans City Park, includes Skrillex, Justice and Kaskade, electronic DJ-producers who have performed at other U.S. festivals in recent years as U.S. radio continues to welcome dance music to its rotation, following Europe’s longtime trend. This will be the first year tent-camping will be available for concert-goers–a popular stable at European music festivals.”

“Cool, crisp weather didn’t deter those getting a jump on Halloween, along with fans of Neil Young and Crazy Horse, Metallica, Justice and more, from coming to City Park in New Orleans for this year’s Voodoo Experience.”
—Rolling Stone.com, 11-1-12
“…music festivals are all the rage in the 21st century. However, no festival can match Voodoo Music Experience + Arts in terms of diversity, vibe, and lineup. Consistently for the past 14 years, Voodoo has eclipsed every genre from jazz and indie rock to hip hop and heavy metal, bringing New Orleans an unforgettable weekend of music on the eve of Halloween. Once again, producer and founder Stephen Rehage brings the premier lineup and Experience to concertgoers with a bill boasting Metallica, Kaskade, Skrillex, Nas, Jack White, Neil Young & Crazy Horse, Tomahawk, and countless others…and it’s bound to be one for the books–as they all are.”
—Artist Direct.com, 10-22-12
“As in years past, Voodoo has just the right size, location, artistic charm, and range of musical variation to entice young and old festivalgoers to do what its mantra commands – “worship the music.” Being well organized, aesthetically pleasing, and musically diverse is what has made the fest a success for over a decade.”
—Jambands.com, 11-12-12
“In what has become an annual celebration of music, art and New Orleans culture, The Voodoo Experience enthralled audiences once again this weekend in Louisiana. A lineup with artists like Neil Young & Crazy Horse, Jack White, Skrillex, and Metallica drew huge crowds and left fans abuzz with adoration.”
—Paste Magazine.com, 10-29-12
“…the Voodoo Music Experience got down with three days of setlists from seemingly every musical genre. Artists who don’t appear on the same rack in any record store traded the stages of City Park, from Neil Young to Skrillex, Metallica to Jack White. For the first time this year, the festival offered camping grounds to its thousands of visitors…”
—Huffington Post.com, 10-29-12
“Every year at City Park, New Orleans hosts the Voodoo Music and Arts Experience, a three-day outdoor festival of sounds spanning all genres and ages…”
