The first-ever OZZFEST JAPAN debuted this past weekend (Saturday, May 11 and Sunday, May 12, 2013) to capacity crowds and wide critical acclaim. The two-day music festival–the first major international music festival to ever travel to the country–drew sold-out crowds of 20,000 fans on each day.

OZZFEST JAPAN–a collaboration between Sharon Osbourne, in partnership with Japanese promoter Hayashi International Promotion (H.I.P.)–included OZZFEST alumni Black Sabbath, Slipknot, Tool, Deftones, Slash and Stone Sour. Other bands on the bill included Maximum the Hormone, Dir En Grey, MAN WITH A MISSION, Momoiro Clover Z, Steel Panther, Ningen Isu, Galneryus, Namba69, AA=, Fear, and Loathing in Las Vegas, MUCC, The Treatment, Anthem, Crossfaith, coldrain, Knock out Monkey, HEAD PHONES PRESIDEN, ARTEMA, and fade.

Brain Surgery Delays New Album from THE CRYSTAL METHOD

Brain surgery leads Grammy-nominated THE CRYSTAL METHOD to announce that they are delaying the release of their fifth studio album.

Per doctor’s orders following recent brain surgery, THE CRYSTAL METHOD’s co-founder, Scott Kirkland, will remain under home medical treatment. As a result, the release of THE CRYSTAL METHOD, the band’s fifth and much anticipated studio album, has been pushed to early fall and a number of tour dates have been postponed or cancelled.

Scott Kirkland has prepared the following statement regarding his current medical situation and future plans:

“Many months ago I started experiencing short, but painful headaches. Thinking they were related to too many flights (or one too many flights of tequila), I didn’t think too much about it, but during my annual checkup I mentioned the headaches to my doctor. She recommended a brain MRI. Scary, but No big deal, right???

Well, thankfully no tumors, but the MRI did find something called a ‘benign posterior fossa arachnoid cyst,’ which normally would be left alone and monitored with future MRIs. That diagnosis worked for me because Ken and I were busy putting the finishing touches on our self-titled studio album that would be followed up by a big summer tour.

I was referred to the very talented University of Southern California brain surgeon Dr. Chen, who evaluated the diagnosis and explained that complications with my cyst could arise due to my tendency to get a little excited on stage. He recommended surgery.

A date was set for extraction of said cyst and on April 11, 2013, I was given a dose of the ‘good stuff.’ A few hours later I came to with a well-sutured hole four-and-a-half inches long in the back of my head and a pain that was only appeased by a round of pharmies. After a few days in the hospital, I got to go home and a week later I felt good enough to join Ken in the studio for a couple of hours on two consecutive days. Some of you might have seen the picture on our Facebook page.

Just when I thought I was on the mend, I contracted an infection and, due to complications, I ended up back in the hospital where I spent most of my next 10 days in ICU dealing with a painful lumbar spinal drain, aka a ‘Spinal Tap.’

Pain that seemed to be set on 11 held me hostage for the first 24 hours. The line from the movie Spinal Tap—”Given the history of Spinal Tap drummers, uh, in the past, do you have any fears, uh, for your life?”—made me laugh a few times, but all in all it was not fun.

Finally, this past week I got home to my wonderful family and a healthy supply of antibiotics that automatically dose me every four hours intravenously, and will continue to do so for the next few weeks.

I’m itching to get back in the studio and finish mixing the last two tracks for what is an amazing record with Ken, but I recognize my need to rest until I get the thumbs up for a return to work from Dr. Chen.

I can’t tell you how frustrating it is for me that my health has made us postpone the release of the new record and cancel a summer full of amazing shows. But I am fully intending to be back in the studio in a couple of weeks with Ken, and our agents are starting to work on putting together new shows for the fall.

JOHN FOGERTY–one of rock’s most important artists and a national treasure who’s sold over 100 million albums–will make multiple TV appearances throughout this month in advance of the May 28 release of WROTE A SONG FOR EVERYONE (Vanguard Records). A celebration of FOGERTY’s iconic songbook, the much-anticipated album is a collection of 12 classics and deep tracks (Creedence Clearwater Revival and solo material) from his remarkable canon of hits recorded in collaboration with today’s biggest superstars from the country, pop and rock worlds, plus two brand new solo songs.

The Grammy Award-winning Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee is set for two consecutive nights on the “Late Show with David Letterman.” He’ll perform May 21 with his band and May 22 with Dawes, the band with whom he recorded “Someday Never Comes” for WROTE A SONG FOR EVERYONE. FOGERTY will also perform May 23 on “The View” and be interviewed May 20 on “CBS This Morning.” *See listing below.

Underlining his enormous influence on music includes the world of country music, FOGERTY will perform his classic “Born On The Bayou” May 19 on the ACM Presents: Tim McGraw’s Superstar Summer Night Special (CBS, 9:00 PM ET/PT) with McGraw, Keith Urban, Jason Aldean and Luke Bryan. FOGERTY will also be featured May 18 (9:00 PM) on HBO for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame HBO induction special performing “I Love L.A.” with new inductee Randy Newman as well as Tom Petty and Jackson Browne. FOGERTY also joins the show’s grand finale, with inductees Rush and Ann and Nancy Wilson of Heart, as well as inductee Chuck D., Dave Grohl and Taylor Hawkins, Chris Cornell, Tom Morello, Gary Clark Jr., and more.

WROTE A SONG FOR EVERYONE marks FOGERTY‘s ninth studio solo album since disbanding Creedence Clearwater Revival. Mixed by Bob Clearmountain, it was recorded in Los Angeles and Nashville except for “Proud Mary” which was recorded in New Orleans with Allen Toussaint and the Rebirth Brass Band. FOGERTY recorded “Fortunate Son” with Foo Fighters at their 606 studio using “the” legendary Neve recording console featured in the #1 iTunes documentary Sound City.

As the acclaimed rock group THE ALMOST prepare to release their third album FEAR INSIDE OUR BONES on June 11 via Tooth & Nail/RED Distribution, the group has announced they’ll kick off a U.S. headlining tour on June 6. For the month-long trek, which includes stops in Denver, Seattle, Los Angeles and more, THE ALMOST has partnered with GIGG.com to launch “The Almost Tournament” which allows local musicians the chance to open up for the band every night on the tour. About THE ALMOST:

The acclaimed rock group THE ALMOST is fronted by Aaron Gillespie, founding member of Grammy-nominated Christian metal band Underoath, who have sold over 1.5 million records.
