JAMES LAVELLE SET TO TOUR NORTH AMERICA

IN SUPPORT OF GLOBAL UNDERGROUND #026: ROMANIA

International DJ/producer JAMES LAVELLE will arrive in North America in July for a selected run of tour dates in support of GU #026: ROMANIA, released March 9 on Global Underground.  The DJ tour will commence July 16 at System in Toronto and will pass through high-profile club venues in New York, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Vancouver, Seattle and Charlotte.

Inspired by his December 13, 2003 club date at Romania’s hottest nightlife spot, the Studio Martin, LAVELLE’s homage to Buchuresti (Bucharest in Romanian) is also an outstanding sampling of cuts with a ‘Mo ‘Wax’ flair.  These include works by such standout names as Queens Of The Stone Age, UNKLE (note the U.S. debut of songs “In A State” [LP version and a special Sasha remix] and “Eye For An Eye” [mixed by Dylan Rhymes & Force Mass Motion] from their U.K. release Never, Never Land), Derrick Carter, South, DJ Shadow, Ritchie Hawtin, The Chemical Brothers and more.

Upon its release, GU #026: Romania garnered such rave reviews in the press as:

“…impresario behind the U.K.’s  renowned electronica label Mo’Wax, arranges a dimly gorgeous DJ-mix CD around tracks from his studio collective UNKLE.’s inexplicably import-only 2003 album Never, Never Land.  Lavelle’s remix of Queens of the Stone Age’s ‘No One Knows’ encapsulates his signature combo of seedy electronica and spiritually hungry rock, a formula elaborated on elsewhere by former UNKLE member DJ Shadow as well as the Chemical Brothers.”

---Barry Walters, Rolling Stone (March 18, 2004)

3-star Review

“Lavelle’s dance mix rides valleys, peaks, and plateaus like a greased roller coaster.”

--Andrew Parks, Entertainment Weekly (March 1, 2004)

“…Filled with UNKLE remixes and UNKLE tunes (now being made in collaboration with Richard File), plus his current favorites for Djing, most prominently, breaks, Romania stays truer to what Lavelle is known for: unpredictable and incongruous choices that work together extremely well.”

--Lily Moayeri, Flaunt (March 2004)

“Respected spin jockey with a new release…that reflects his creative restlessness and growing fascination with forms of dance music far beyond the nascent trip hop for which Mo’ Wax was originally known.”

--Corey duBrowa, Magnet (May/June 2004)

“…this unconventional set simultaneously celebrates head-banging and hip-shaking.”

--Kurt B. Reighley, The Advocate (April 13, 2004)

“Ambient, yet driven, Lavelle expertly weaves between the familiar and the unknown to create a stellar set list that is as listenable as it is danceable.”

--Justin Hampton, URB (March 2004)

“…James Lavelle returns to the GU series with a diverse follow-up to 2002's Barcelona mix project. Taking inspiration from Bucharest this time around, the Mo' Wax label boss trips through an eclectic landscape of breakbeat, techno, and trip-hop atmospheres courtesy of artists like Queens of the Stone Age, Derrick Carter, DJ Shadow, Richie Hawtin, and Chemical Brothers…fans of Lavelle will find themselves right at home.”

--Chris Muniz, XLR8R (March 2004)
