BILLY IDOL
INVITED TO GUEST STAR IN SOLD-OUT
PERFORMANCES OF THE WHO'S CLASSIC ROCK OPERA
QUADROPHENIA
AT MADISON SQUARE GARDEN JULY 16-18 & 20-22
Look for BILLY IDOL to guest star in the New York performances of "Quadrophenia"--the rock operatic-styled work written and composed by Pete Townshend and first released as an album by The Who in 1973--at Madison Square Garden on July 16-18 and 20-22 in New York.
IDOL--appearing as the characters "Ace Face" and "The Bellboy"--joins The Who founders Pete Townshend, Roger Daltrey and John Entwistle who reprise their original roles. Zak Starkey (son of Ringo Starr) is the drummer, a role originally occupied by the late Keith Moon.
90's technology at last caught up to Townshend's elaborate vision, making it possible to realize a live "Quadrophenia" featuring extensive film and visual effects. Launching the release of The Who's updated and remastered CD version of Quadrophenia on MCA Records, the stage production debuted June 29 in London's Hyde Park as part of the annual Prince's Trust benefit concert in front of a sold-out audience of 150,000. Likewise, the first three New York shows, featuring IDOL, sold out in a matter of hours and three more nights were added due to overwhelming demand.
"Quadrophenia" marks the reunion of IDOL with The Who since he guest starred--along with Elton John, Steve Winwood and Patti LaBelle--in the late 80's stage production of "Tommy" at London's Royal Albert Hall and the Universal Amphitheater in Los Angeles. In addition to his participation in "Quadrophenia," IDOL is currently writing and recording songs for a new album on Chrysalis/EMI due next year.
