EARTHLING DESCENDS ON EUROPE: Coming off a startling acoustic performance of "Dead Man Walking" from his EARTHLING album on the Conan O'Brien Show recently, DAVID BOWIE is now in rehearsals for a major summer concert tour.

BOWIE and his band--guitarist Reeves Gabrels; keyboardist Mike Garson; bassist Gail Ann Dorsey and drummer Zachary Alford--will be headlining huge outdoor European festivals just as they did in 1996, performing with groups like Prodigy, Rage Against The Machine, Daft Punk, Mansun, Paul Weller, and Placebo. The preliminary dates run from June 7 through July 30. On tap are 22 shows in 11 countries: Germany, France, Norway, Finland, Belgium, Denmark, Italy, Switzerland, Spain, and England. Meanwhile, stateside fans can check out the new (June) issue of Guitar Player where BOWIE and REEVES GABRELS appear on the cover with a story by PJ HARVEY guitarist Joe Gore, who declares: "Earthling, widely regarded as Bowie's best release in many years, is a high-tech tour de force that fuses over-the-top guitars with some of the electronic beats that have driven recent European pop, particularly the feverish collision of deep bass and hyperactive percussion known as jungle or drum and bass." BOWIE's passion for unique rhythms will be evident when he performs his classic "Fame," borrowing the hip-hop beats Dr. Dre created for his own recent version of the song. The BOWIE dates are as follows:
