ALANIS MORISSETTE TO LAUNCH
WORLD TOUR JANUARY 30
IN NEW ORLEANS
ALANIS MORISSETTE will launch her worldwide headlining concert tour January 30 in New Orleans in connection with her critically acclaimed and precedent-setting SUPPOSED FORMER INFATUATION JUNKIE album on Maverick Recording Co. The first leg of the trek will visit venues in cities in the United States before heading overseas. Joining ALANIS on the American dates will be Liz Phair (for the first eight shows, January 30-February 13) and then Garbage (for 25 shows, February 15-April 7). Ultimately, the tour is expected to last through December 1999 and will encompass Europe, the U.K., Canada, South America, Australia, New Zealand, Japan and the Far East.
Before closing out 1998, ALANIS appeared Thursday, December 17 on The Tonight Show, performing "Joining You" from SUPPOSED FORMER INFATUATION JUNKIE, an album described by Robert Hilburn in the Los Angeles Times as "a brave purposeful work," while Edna Gundersen in USA Today noted: "Chock-full of supple melodies, sharp arrangements and engaging vocals, JUNKIE boasts a maturity and sophistication rarely found in unseasoned artists. Add MORISSETTE's vision and daring and you've got a spectacular achievement." "Joining You" is receiving wide airplay on modern rock stations across the country, while "Unsent" is the follow-up to the #1 "Thank U" and will be released as a single in January.
Highlights of 1998 for ALANIS included a warm-up club tour of North America--documented on a November hour-long MTV in-concert special taped at New York City's Roseland--as well as two special overseas performances. The first was December 10 at Bercy Stadium in Paris for Amnesty International's concert to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. She was on a bill with Peter Gabriel, Bruce Springsteen, Youssou N'Dour, Tracy Chapman and Radiohead. ALANIS followed this performance with a December 11 appearance in Oslo at the Nobel Peace Prize concert, which honored this year's Peace Prize Laureates and drew attention to their respective causes.
For the upcoming world tour, ALANIS will be joined by her band: Chris Chaney (bass), Nick Lashley (guitar), drummer Gary Novak, guitarist Joel Shearer and keyboardist Deron Johnson.
