‘CHECK ONE…TWO MONDAYS’ AT THE VIPER ROOM CELEBRATES ITS TWO-YEAR ANNIVERSARY ON JUNE 5

WITH GRAM RABBIT, PORTERVILLE AND THE RESISTANCE

On Monday, June 5, the world-famous VIPER ROOM on the Sunset Strip will mark the two-year anniversary of Indie 103.1 presents Check One…Two Mondays with performances by Gram Rabbit, Porterville and The Resistance.  The evening commemorates the Monday weekly event that showcases the best in emerging local LA rock heard on the Indie 103.1 radio show Check One…Two, hosted by Mr. Shovel (aka Mark Sovel) at 10 pm every Sunday.

Working with the Viper Room’s talent buyer Joe Rinaldi, Sovel handpicks breaking bands to present their stage show at the Viper supplementing what is heard on the airwaves.  Many Check One…Two artists are invited onto Sovel’s radio show prior to their appearance at the venue for an on-air interview.

The anniversary headliners Gram Rabbit were one of the first bands to perform along with the Earthlings and The Spores at the Check One…Two Viper Room night. Porterville has also been a Check One…Two favorite, with the most performances overall including the first residency.  Bands like Tsar, The Vacation, Phantom Planet, Giant Drag, Something For Rockets, The Plebs, Nico Vega, Monsters Are Waiting, The Like, Mellowdrone, Midnight Movies, The Shore and Oslo are just a few of the artists who have appeared at Check One…Two early on in their careers.

The night has also become a hotbed for A&R executives and hard-core music fans who like to stay current on what is upcoming in independent rock.  I'm honored to have had so many great LA & OC bands come to play at Check One…Two Mondays over the past two years.  I've made many new friends among those who've attend the night on a regular basis and I feel as though we've been witness to the history of the LA music scene unfolding a new chapter,” says Mark Sovel.  “The best part is there's an amazing new band I don't know of yet out there that just dropped their CD in the mail today.  I can't wait to hear it, play it on the radio and see them play live at the Viper Room.”

Adds Michael Steele, 103.1’s programming director, “It's been so gratifying to see the local music scene grow at the Viper Room over the last two years.  Check One…Two has become one of the most important sources for new music on Indie, that along with Mark Sovel and Joe Rinaldi's incredible ears!!  I'm proud to have Indie 103.1 plugged into the local scene through Check One…Two.”
