It’s 2015, and we’re at
a crossroads in electronic music. At a time when fans worldwide have become
bored with monotonous beats, preprogrammed performances, and robotic artists,
Grabbitz comes through with a fresh take on production and sound. Leading a new
wave of producers breaking away from the cookie cutter mold expected from the
dance music world, Grabbitz has carved his own lane, he’s found his unique
voice, and he’s established a genuine style best heard on his forthcoming Better With TimeEP.
On Better With Time, the
multifaceted, Los Angeles-based producer/songwriter/performer expands his
musical horizon, while at the same time challenges the status quo within the
current EDM landscape. As a follow-up to Friends, his debut EP, Better With Time sees Grabbitz,
née Nick Chiari, explore his production palate and diversify his songwriting
prowess. What results is a seven-track release, which plays out less like an
album and more like a mini-movie. Complete with an intro and an intermission,Better With Timeebbs
and flows with cinematic compositions filled with grace, deep human emotion,
and passionate artistry. Designed to be ingested from beginning to end, each
song on Better With Time
seamlessly weaves into the next like an intricately architected web to create a
true listening experience rarely found in electronic music today.

For a taste, there’s no
better example than title track “Better With Time,” where drum & bass
elements and dubstep-flavored breakdowns converge across lush synths,
atmospheric builds, and personal lyrics for a fine balance between the rush of
the heavy and the beauty of the heartfelt. On “Float Away,” Grabbitz takes hold
of the senses with an endearing chord progression, which lifts the mind and spirit
beyond the clouds and into a dream state as the lyrics describe. Elsewhere,
“Make You Mine” takes cues from ‘90s-inspired alternative rock as filtered
through an electronic ear, while “Get Out” skews with a roughneck lean built
around a tender melody. Closer “Cold” sees vocalist LAYNE join Grabbitz on a
duet surrounded by vulnerability and introspection.
“I consider Better With Time my most important body of work to date. I’ve
incorporated many different influences into the records through experimenting
with songwriting techniques, adding more live instrumentation, and giving
myself a chance to step up as a vocalist,” says Grabbitz. “In keeping the musical boundaries minimal, I
feel I’ve achieved a sound that is my own.
My team and I have been calling it ‘alternative dance music’ but
regardless of what it’s called, I’ve never been more excited to share a project
with whoever is willing to listen.”
With Time is the next chapter in
the budding Grabbitz timeline. The producer rose to prominence within the
electronic circuit with his Friends
EP, released April 2015 via Monstercat, which hit the Top 10 iTunes Dance
Album chart. With Friends, the stylistic progenitor to Better With Time, Grabbitz left
his mark via emotion-based songwriting and evolved production. His career
catapulted into mainstream success when electronic icon deadmau5 enlisted
Grabbitz to contribute vocals on the vocal edit of his track “Silent Picture,”
which serves as the closing number on his current multimedia festival show.
Additionally, Grabbitz fan favorites “Here With You Now” and “Turn Around” hit
#1 and #2, respectively, on the Beatport Dubstep Charts in 2014. These two
tracks alone have already stacked up over 4 million combined YouTube plays
alone. In 2015, Grabbitz stepped into the TV realm when he contributed
composition work for the nationally syndicated hit TV show CSI: Cyber,
which garnered over 10 million viewers in its premiere (3/15).
While the Grabbitz
project is still in its infancy, the 22-year-old artist has come a long way
from his bedroom production days in his native Buffalo, NY, and there’s still
much more to accomplish for the promising star-to-be. If Better With Time is any
indication, Grabbitz is one artist destined to help progress the evolution of
modern electronic music into unprecedented boundaries.
