Unique Opportunity For Fans To Remix Their Own Version of ‘Space Oddity’
On Their Computer and Brand New iPhone Application
Release date: 20th July 2009
40 years ago to the day that Neil Armstrong stepped on to the moon, EMI will create a unique opportunity for David Bowie fans: the chance for them to download and mix the original multi-tracks of ‘Space Oddity,’ which also celebrates its 40th anniversary this year.
As David Bowie is a pioneer of technology, and keen to push the boundaries, now is the time that his fans are afforded the opportunity to have access to the original 1969 multi-tracks of ‘Space Oddity,’ allowing them to become remixer and create their own version of the song.
The ‘Space Oddity’ EP will consist of four tracks (listed below). When fans purchase the EP they will also receive the original eight stems/multi-tracks for free, enabling them to remix the song through their own software or through iKlax Player software.
Originally released on 11th July 1969 to coincide with the Apollo 11 moon landings, ‘Space Oddity’ was a cultural landmark for David Bowie as an artist – it was featured by the BBC in its television coverage of the lunar landing, and the song later won an Ivor Novello award. The song’s mysterious character, Major Tom, has become a recurrent theme throughout Bowie’s work and career, being revisited in the song ‘Ashes To Ashes’.
This is a revolutionary experience for music fans to recreate their own versions of one of popular music’s most iconic songs.
‘Space Oddity’ EP tracklisting:
1. Space Oddity (original UK mono single edit)
2. Space Oddity (US mono single edit)
3. Space Oddity (US stereo single edit)
4. Space Oddity (1979 re-record)
Notes to editors:
** The iKlax Player software (http://www.iklaxmedia.com/article-25-iklax-player.html#download) allows fans an exciting opportunity – to play back the multi-track stems using built in faders. Users simply download the software (Mac or PC), drop in the ‘iKlax file’ of the song, which enables them to mix the individual tracks: vocals, acoustic 12-string guitar, drums and bass, mellotron, organ and guitars, guitar solo, strings and other orchestration. Fans can save their versions to playback and also upload to the iKlax social network communities.
All details will be on Bowie Net.
** Additionally, fans will be able to purchase an Application through the iTunes App Store, which will enable them to download the application to their iPod and iPhone and interface with the product in the same way as they would on their PC or Mac, with the radical advantage of being able to do it with mobility, anytime, anywhere.
