OUT NOW ON A TOUCH OF CLASS RECORDS
For the first time in their decade-long career, New York City-based production duo A TOUCH OF CLASS (ATOC) have announced a west-coast DJ tour. ATOC’s Oliver Strumm and Domie Clausen have DJ’d in New York, Miami, Austin and extensively throughout Europe, but now with A Touch Of Class Still Sucks!–their new release to support–the pair will head west in April to further expose their respected dance/rock vs. electro/punk sound in the States.
For their first foray on this side of the country, the ATOC duo will hit some of the hottest party locations including Los Angeles downtown spots like The Standard and the Black Disco Social Warehouse party, Chop Suey in Seattle, Sacramento’s $Dollar $Disco and Anthem Magazine’s party in Indio, CA to name a few. The ten dates will span the month of April beginning at Mezzanine in San Francisco April 12.
A TOUCH OF CLASS’ current offering A Touch Of Class Still Sucks! is a collection of steadfast revamps of The Gossip’s “Listen-Up,” Le Tigre’s “After Dark,” Scissor Sisters’ “Filthy Gorgeous,” Erasure’s “Don’t Say You Love Me” and many more. By using modern production techniques with an uncompromising attitude and refusing to lock into a specific genre, Oliver and Domie deliver cutting-edge and daring mixes of the highest craftsmanship, as highlighted by their new collection of productions and remixes. Since its release February 27 via their imprint A Touch Of Class Recordings, the album has received rave reviews across the board:
“Oliver Stumm and Domie Clausen of ATOC put their patented discofied touch to The Gossip, Le Tigre, Scissor Sisters and parent company, Erasure…Not a stinker in the bunch.” —Jack Real, URB (March 2007)
“Oliver Stumm and Domie Clausen know remixes and know how to prove it. Irresistibly danceable and 3 a.m. grimy yet still technically proficient, ATOC’s balance of precision and abandon is sure to mess up the wax on dancefloors worldwide…” —Kristi Kates, REMIX (April 2007)
“…electrified chunky, sexy and sleazy cosmopolitan dance music…” —Craig Roseberry, BPM (February 2007)
“On this collection, the duo puts a glammy, disco-rock edge on tracks by Erasure and Le Tigre. The highlights are a ballsy treatment of the Gossip and fey Swiss popsters Waldorf.” —John Dugan, TIME OUT CHICAGO (February 2007)
“A Touch Of Class Still Sucks! is a timely reminder that substance trumps style.” –Dennis Romero, LA CITY BEAT (March 15, 2007)
“…Still Sucks delivers a sonic shot of adrenaline to the heart that is at the same time ingenious and danceable…” —Hans Fink, SKINNIE (February 2007)
“ATOC’s DJs are a rare breed of remixers who dare to accentuate the melodic parts of the songs they manipulate rather than contort them into soulless, drug-induced soundtracks. New York-via-Zurich provocateurs Domie Clausen and Oliver Stumm make their mark by essentially letting the songs speak for themselves…The production team proves they’re true music fans, never muting the essence of the artists’ works…” —Melissa Bobbitt, CHORD (April 2007)
“…This, their sophomore compilation of the sort, highlights their successful track record of making the downtown kids sweat their eyeliner off (check the opening remix of The Gossip’s ‘Listen Up,’ an epic banger of a cut.” —Jason Ough, STUCK (March 2007)
“For all their forward thinking and studio tinkering – not to mention a Top 10 UK hit – production duo A Touch Of Class still aver that they “suck.” Despite their contentions, Oliver Stumm and Dominique Clausen prove they do anything but with this remix compilation. Some things they actually do: cement themselves as taste-makers, if not presagers, with their distorted dub-disco of Services’ ‘Element of Danger’; stress the filthy in Scissor Sisters’ ‘Filthy/Gorgeous’ by exposing the steel of guitar strings; and prick ears with their treatment of the Gossip’s ‘Listen Up.’ Most remarkable about ATOC’s second comp is their ability to not only provide DJs with club-ready material, but also to exploit such a small pool of artists so broadly. Reworks of two tracks by the Ones – the retro electro of ‘Ultramodern’ and the Rapture-riffic ‘I Feel Upside Down’ – served up back to back, sound distinct enough to be mistaken for two entirely different bands. “–Melody Caraballo, EARPLUG (March 2007)
“Hovering on the musical map between electro disco and indie dance rock, New York duo A Touch Of Class are mix masters supreme who’ve added their frothy electronics and genius production to some of the hippest acts around. This second installment of their knob-twiddling tweaks and beats is the first genius dance record of the year, and you’d be hard-pressed to sit still while it’s spinning…” —Paul V, IN LA MAGAZINE (January 2007)
“…The album is a DJs dream…” —Mark Ziemke, GROUNDCONTROLMAGAZINE (February 2007)
“ATOC have turned the fine art of the remix into a science, distilling tracks into their groovy essence before cutting them loose with inventive new twists that seem as natural as the original single.” —Gilbert Garcia, DALLAS VOICE (February 2007)
