BLASTS OFF FEBRUARY 27
WITH NATIONAL RELEASE OF ‘A TOUCH OF CLASS STILL SUCKS!’
OF THE SCISSOR SISTERS, THE GOSSIP, LE TIGRE, ERASURE, SERVICES
AND OTHERS FROM NYC’S HOTTEST MUSIC TEAM
Time Out New York (2005)
Somewhere on the musical map between electro/disco and dance rock New York City-based production duo A TOUCH OF CLASS (ATOC) have carved quite a name for themselves. By using modern production techniques with an uncompromising attitude and refusing to lock into a specific genre, they deliver cutting-edge and daring mixes of the highest craftsmanship, as highlighted by their new collection of productions and remixes: A TOUCH OF CLASS STILL SUCKS! This release marks the follow-up to their critically acclaimed 2003 debut full-length A Touch Of Class Sucks! and is due out February 27 via their imprint A Touch Of Class Recordings.
A Touch Of Class Still Sucks! is a collection of steadfast revamps of The Gossip’s “Listen-Up,” Le Tigre’s “After Dark,” Scissor Sisters’ “Filthy Gorgeous,” Erasure’s “Don’t Say You Love Me” and many more. Early praise from across the pond has Ben Osborne from U.K.’s DJ Magazine (January 2007) stating in his 4.5-out-of-5 star review, “Their first compilation, in 2003, not only summed-up the quality of their productions, but also revealed their on-the-button vision…This sophomore collection shows they’ve lost none of their touch.” Adds Russell Deeks of the U.K.’s International DJ magazine (January 2007) in his 4-out-of-5 star review: “Here the ATOC boys present a collection of their finest remixes—and boy is it fun…it’s the perfect introduction to this oh-so ‘now’ sound….so far from sucking its just not true.”
Oliver Stumm and Domie Clausen founded A Touch Of Class Recordings in 1999 as a platform to release their own material as well as help launch other artists. Also producing under the name A Touch Of Class, they have delivered an impressive roster of production work including the Scissor Sisters’ "Comfortably Numb" and "Filthy Gorgeous," "Flawless" by The Ones (which was licensed by George Michael on his last album Patience) and Xavier’s "Give Me The Night." They are known for discovering the then-unknown Scissor Sisters as well as producing and releasing the band's first few singles before signing them to a major label.
Zurich, Switzerland-born Domie and Boston/Zurich native Oliver joined forces in NYC as they both tired of the beat-defined splintering of dance genres in the late ‘90s. Ever bored with easy-assembled lifestyles, magazine hype and industry compromises, Oliver and Domie decided to follow their own beliefs and release music with a no-holds-barred approach based on the right "attitude" rather than specific genre. They took their name A Touch Of Class from a chrome emblem off the back of a garbage truck and use this name that signifies suburban-trash chic as an umbrella for all their activities and interests such as music production, running a label imprint and creating their own installations and events. They began throwing loft parties in derelict Korean brothels and Chinese cafeterias throughout New York City and released the first ATOC recordings single "The Rock EP" in 1999. With this "grass roots" philosophy, they established a name around the world as producers as well as DJs and found themselves at the forefront of the electro movement.
Leading up to the U.S. availability of A Touch Of Class Still Sucks!, ATOC will head overseas to support the collection’s European release on January 29 for a DJ tour of select dates. After the gigs are completed, Oliver and Domie will return to the U.S. on a national tour. Dates will be announced at a later date.
