AAA RADIO CONTINUES TO FEEL
‘FEEL’
AS DEBUT SINGLE ‘WON’T STAND IN YOUR WAY’
BUILDS STEAM AMIDST FIERCE COMPETITION
Curb Records’ FEEL has continued FEEL-ing love from AAA radio in a very competitive fourth quarter. Their first single “Won’t Stand in Your Way” from their self-titled debut—which was released October 1st—is the only song on the AAA charts from a new artist and continues to build momentum, receiving adds at stations like KINK in Portland and KTBG in Kansas City. KINK’s Dennis Constantine says, “If the Byrds recorded a new song produced by Dave Edmunds, it would be called ‘Won’t Stand In Your Way’ and the band would be Feel. This is a great radio record for the 21st century!”
As a result, FEEL has jumped to #23 on Radio & Records’ AAA chart, amidst such heavy hitters as Peter Gabriel, Pearl Jam, Sheryl Crow, Norah Jones, Counting Crows and Ryan Adams.
In his Hits magazine column “Adultery,” Mike Morrison described the unadulterated enthusiasm which FEEL have taken on the road: “As most of the superstar/core-artist releases flooding our mail bins find their way on the air, making room once again for developing artists, it’s hard-working bands who are willing to gut it out on the road doing sparsely attended club shows, visiting radio stations and playing at station events that will be left standing as this very crowded fourth quarter turns into the first quarter of 2003. While Curb’s FEEL was in Memphis, they busted in, uninvited, on WMPS PD Alexandra Inzer and played ‘Won’t Stand In Your Way’ in her office! She liked ‘em enough to let them play on the air. When asked during the interview how long they’d be on the road, their response was ‘Until we’re #1, baby!!!”
The Los Angeles-based band–singer/guitarist SCOT SAX; guitarist/singer BILLY ALEXANDER; bassist MARK GETTEN; and drummer DAVE SHAFFER–was recently featured on the cover of The Network, where Jim Nelson described “Won’t Stand In Your Way” as “An insistent rocker with an abundance of charm and likeability…this song is a fine how-do-you-do from Feel, and an example of the strength of their initial offering.” The group’s sparkling, pop-inflected guitar-rock (which stems from SAX’s and GETTEN’s prior band Wanderlust) was produced by Dusty Wakeman.
“I think, musically, FEEL lends itself to Triple-A,” says Bob Catania, head of Curb Records’ radio promotion, “although we believe there is music on this album that will grow beyond the format.” FEEL are currently traversing the country visiting radio stations. On the live front, FEEL are playing JY Whitney’s in Madison, WI October 25th and the Fine Line in Minneapolis, MN October 26th, with many more tour dates (including a three-week East Coast tour beginning at the end of November) to be announced imminently.
