ALANIS MORISSETTE
COMPLETES VIDEO FOR NEW SINGLE ‘PRECIOUS ILLUSIONS’
Before she launched her headlining tour in support of her three million-selling UNDER RUG SWEPT, ALANIS MORISSETTE took time in Los Angeles to shoot a video for her newly released single, the guitar-driven “Precious Illusions.” Directed by Francis Lawrence (who also lensed “Hands Clean”), the unconventional video uses two separate images on screen at the same time, paralleling each other exactly, but each with a different point of view of a romantic relationship.
While one side of the split screen uses brilliant colors and renaissance costumes to represent the perfect “knight in shining armor” fantasy relationship, the other takes a more candid approach, incorporating raw lighting and hand held cameras to show the realistic perspective.
Scenes in the fairytale portion of the video are inspired by such wishful verses as: “You’ll rescue me right?/In the exact same way they never did/I’ll be happy, right?/When your healing powers kick in.” At the same time, the reality-based footage reflects the lyrics found in the song’s chorus: “These precious illusions in my head/Did not let me down when I was a kid/And parting with them is like parting with a childhood best friend.”
The video is now in rotation on VH1.
