IN MARATHON TWO-HOUR SETS
The first leg of the tour kicked off August 21 in Camden, NJ and wrapped with two nights in Chicago (9/1 & 2). The next leg of dates runs from October 3 through 17 (dates below). In a live review, the Rochester (NY) Democrat & Chronicle said, “Saturday’s dial-a-jam saw them bring every member of…Widespread Panic onstage at one point or another for jam sessions…It was midnight before all possibilities had been exhausted…Most CMAC shows end by the time the Allmans brought out Widespread guitarist Jimmy Herring for a mind-blowing ‘In Memory of Elizabeth Reed’ that went on for about 45 minutes, with giant mushrooms zooming past the band’s heads on the video screen behind them (8/24/09).”
WIDESPREAD PANIC–JOHN BELL (vocals and guitar), JOJO HERMANN (keyboards), TODD NANCE (drums), DOMINGO ORTIZ (percussionist), DAVE SCHOOLS (bass) and JIMMY HERRING (guitar; also former ABB guitarist)–released their 10th studio album Free Somehow in 2008 and after this run will perform a special Halloween show at New Orleans’ Voodoo Experience, with other tour dates to be announced.
The ALLMAN BROTHERS BAND–GREGG ALLMAN (vocals and keyboards), BUTCH TRUCKS (drums and tympani), JAIMOE (drums), WARREN HAYNES (vocals, lead and slide guitar), DEREK TRUCKS (slide and lead guitar), OTEIL BURBRIDGE (bass) and MARC QUINONES (congas and percussion)–have been on the road most of the year, celebrating their 40th anniversary.
