ARMY OF ANYONE
TO HEADLINE 2007 WINTER SNOCORE TOUR
LAUNCHING JANUARY 18 IN HOUSTON;
BAND CONTINUES TO GARNER CRITICAL ACCLAIM
FOR DEBUT ALBUM AND LIVE PERFORMANCES
Meanwhile, ARMY OF ANYONE–vocalist RICHARD PATRICK, formerly of Filter; guitarist DEAN DELEO and bassist ROBERT DELEO, ex-Stone Temple Pilots; and drummer RAY LUZIER–continue to garner critical acclaim for their recently-released self-titled debut album (Firm Music), while their first single “Goodbye” continues to build at radio. “Goodbye” is currently #3 and climbing on the Active Rock chart.
Here’s what the critics are saying about the ARMY OF ANYONE debut:
"Well-chosen harmonies on choruses and an array of some of the most surprising guitar sounds heard on a commercial rock record this year characterize this descendant of Stone Temple Pilots and Filter. The rhythm section drives hard through surprising harmonic left-turns and meter changes–drummer Ray Luzier particularly resurrects the spirit of Zep's John Bonham–and then glides effortlessly into a dreamy '70s-era ballad. The overall production is masterful wide-screen stereo in an old-school way, thanks to producer Bob Ezrin, who handled Pink Floyd's ‘The Wall.’”
–Casey Dolan, Los Angeles Times, November 18, 2006
“The DeLeos were an underrated team in their old band’s heyday, unusually melodic players and writers in the era of the superriff…the guitar-orchestra punch and turnaround hooks in ‘It Doesn’t Seem to Matter’ and ‘Generation’…”
–David Fricke, Rolling Stone (3 ½ stars), November 16, 2006
“Army of Anyone’s debut is a thick and meaty slab of neo-‘90s alt-rock, with several songs that, like the first single, ‘Goodbye,’ feature shouty, stadium-rock choruses and Dean’s signature shimmering, psychedelic riffs.”
–Lyndsey Parker, Guitar One, Holiday 2006
–Rick Florino, Ruin Magazine, November 2006
“…sharply written numbers filled with dynamics, musical nuances, and a big sound courtesy of producer Bob Ezrin…With its mixtures of moods, subtle use of genre-shifting, and powerhouse guitars, Army of Anyone breaks down the rock barriers, and fans should be joining up by the droves.”
–Jo-Ann Greene, AllMusic.com, October 2006
“…a lushly exciting debut that lives up to, and quite possibly even exceeds, the pedigree of their former bands, with Stone Temple Pilots’ audacious orchestrations and Filter’s haunting vocal melodies. Above it all, the intriguingly rich album will make you want to enlist, salute, stand at attention and join the army!”
–Cathy Campagna, Aquarian Weekly, November 15, 2006
“…the DeLeo brothers bring their trademark warmth and melodic punch, but Patrick's tenor vocals coupled with Luzier's progressive drumming combine to form a layered sound that accomplishes something that too few rock bands do in this day and age: remind the listener that these are musicians playing.”
–Michael Libby, USC Daily Trojan, November 14, 2006
Elsewhere, in a review of the band’s November 21 show in Boston, Christopher John Treacy of the Boston Herald praised their live performance, noting: “Playing only its second-ever gig to a packed house at the Paradise on Tuesday, the powerhouse four-piece demonstrated musical chemistry most bands only dream of…its original material blended seamlessly with revisited STP and Filter selections, including ‘Vasoline,’ ‘Hey Man, Nice Shot’ and ‘Piece of Pie.’…Bassist Robert DeLeo and his brother Dean, both former members of STP, seemed invigorated by Patrick’s enthusiasm, which was barely contained by the small Paradise stage…An unplugged reading of ‘A Better Place’ revealed Army of Anyone’s inner STP; the melody at the tune’s core made clear just how much the DeLeo brothers crafted STP’s sound, which they are putting to good use elsewhere. After covering Led Zeppelin’s ‘Rain Song,’ Army stormed through the glam ‘Big Bang Baby,’ and the near riot-inducing ‘Welcome to the Fold,’ with drummer Ray Luzier pummeling away as if his life depended on it. (November 23, 2006)”
