UPCOMING FEMALE SOLO ARTISTS AND FEMALE-FRONTED BANDS SCHEDULED TO PERFORM AT LEGENDARY SUNSET STRIP VENUE INCLUDE MISS DERRINGER, WEST INDIAN GIRL, NICO VEGA AND MORE
THE ROXY THEATRE in Los Angeles is gearing up for a solid patch of performances from female artists over the next few weeks. These ladies follow in the footsteps of Dolly Parton, Bette Midler, Whitney Houston, Alicia Keyes, Amy Winehouse, Emmy Lou Harris, Crissy Hynde, No Doubt, The Pussycat Dolls (featuring various guests like Christina Aguilera, Christina Applegate, Gwen Stefani, Cameron Diaz, Charlize Theron, Carmen Electra, Brittany Murphy), The Duke Spirit, Blonde Redhead, Lisa Loeb and Juliette & the Licks, just to name a few—all of whom have performed at the legendary Sunset Strip venue since opening its doors 35 years ago.
This Friday, January 23, recent LA CityBeat cover artist Miss Derringer will support psycho-rockabilly outfit The Head Cat. Next, on Saturday, January 24, KCRW presents West Indian Girl, which features mesmerizing vocalist Mariqueen Maandig and vocalist/keyboardist Amy White. The six-piece ensemble who fuses psychedelia, classic rock and electronica appear in celebration of the release of their current offering 4th On The Floor: Remixes, Vol 2. Keytar-singing, compelling frontwoman of Hello Stranger Juliette Commagere also appears on the bill for this night as well.
Other appearances include Candice Devine on January 29; “Pop Lock” rockers Hyper Crush with vocalist Holly Valentine with an all-ages show on February 19; “Zena The Warrior Princess” star Lucy Lawless takes her musical strike on January 30 & 31; Nico Vega celebrates the release of their self-titled new album with KROQ Local’s Only and MySpace party on February 5; Zero 7’s Tina Dico makes her ROXY appearance as part of a six-date U.S. run in support of her digital trilogy album release A Beginning, A Detour, An Open Ending on March 8; and pianist/singer-songwriter Vienna Teng strikes a few chords with a selection of medleys from her upcoming Rounder Records Inland Territory album on April 29.
