AVENGED SEVENFOLD
BREAKOUT ALBUM ‘WAKING THE FALLEN’ EXPLODING IN THE U.S.
WITH OVER 90,000 COPIES SHIPPED;
BAND IN THE MIDST OF HEADLINING SPRING U.S. TOUR
AFTER RECEIVING RAVE REVIEWS DURING TUMULTUOUS U.K. TREK;
VANS WARPED TOUR ON TAP FOR THIS SUMMER
“…hard-and-heavy eclecticism…a volatile fusion of punk melody and metal intensity…Combining unpredictable rhythm shifts, melodic hurricanes and abrupt vocal turns…” –Tracey John, CMJ, November 2003
AVENGED SEVENFOLD, now in the midst of a headlining tour, are taking the U.S. by storm. The band’s breakout album WAKING THE FALLEN, out now on Hopeless Records, is exploding in the U.S., having shipped over 90,000 copies in just over six months. Their current trek is taking the band to over 32 cities across the country–including a stop at the Surf and Skate Festival in Asbury Park, NJ on April 17–before they jump on the Vans Warped Tour later this summer.
After wrapping a hugely successful U.K. tour, AVENGED SEVENFOLD returned home to a sold-out show at Los Angeles’ Henry Fonda Theater in early March. At the show, 1,600 rabid fans showed up to witness AVENGED SEVENFOLD’s powerful live performance and participate in a video shoot–lensed by director Greg Kaplan–for “Unholy Confessions,” the fierce and sprawling first single. In his LA Weekly live review (March 12, 2004), writer Paul Rogers raved:
“A7X are an all-ages phenomenon…A7X never let the energy dip during their lengthy set of epic concoctions. Front man M. SHADOWS…is a commanding voice throughout, alternating between surprisingly succulent sustain and stangled-banshee ranting…As well as choice cuts from the current WAKING THE FALLEN, A7X revisit some seldom-played older tunes (‘Darkness Surrounding,’ ‘To End the Rapture’), leaving their dark teen legions thoroughly satiated.”
In true rock n’ roll form, AVENGED SEVENFOLD—M. SHADOWS (vocals), ZACKY VENGEANCE (guitar), SYNYSTER GATES (guitar), THE REVEREND (drums) and JOHNNY CHRIST–blew away crowds during their recent U.K. tour, which included shows with Lostprophets and sold-out headlining gigs–but not without some controversy. On their first night of their first show in London, a bar brawl at the fabled Crowbar pub landed THE REVEREND in jail for the night. The U.K. journey ultimately enabled the band to garner fans and widespread critical acclaim. In his KERRANG! live review (February 26, 2004), writer Nik Young hailed:
“Ridiculously talented, captivating and boasting a frontman with immaculate live vocals, AVENGED SEVENFOLD are in their own league entirely. Craftily blending infectious choruses, toxic riffs and all-conquering aggression; one minute you have your hand pressed on your heart and your fist in the air, chanting ingeniously moving anthems, the next you are ripped to shreds by circle-pit inducing mayhem. Sheer magic.”
Meanwhile, WAKING THE FALLEN received praise from writer Luke Lewis in the new issue of TOTAL GUITAR (U.K.) “…they’ve just recorded the most thrillingly diverse rock album of the year. WAKING THE FALLEN, the band’s third and most recent release, is a wildly schizophrenic affair.”
