BALKAN BEAT BOX
DEBUTS MUSIC VIDEO FOR “PART OF THE GLORY”
CELEBRATORY DANCE TRACK FROM THE BAND’S FORTHCOMING ALBUM
‘GIVE’
OUT MARCH 6 ON NAT GEO MUSIC
The socially conscious, multicultural trio BALKAN BEAT BOX has debuted the official music video for their celebratory dance track “Part Of The Glory,” from the forthcoming album GIVE. The critically acclaimed group’s first release in nearly two years, GIVE will be released Tuesday, March 6 on Nat Geo Music. They’ve also announced U.S. tour dates in support of the record, kicking off March 8 in Baltimore, MD (full itinerary below).
The “Part Of The Glory” video can be seen now at http://youtu.be/wcVCs3MDBvI (here in HD: http://youtu.be/wcVCs3MDBvI?hd=1). Directed by Billy Levy, the video was filmed in the Neve Sha’anan neighborhood of Tel Aviv, Israel and features performance footage of BALKAN BEAT BOX. It also showcases locals in their day-to-day lives, dancing, playing and exercising; it’s a celebration of their vibrant spirit. Those who make appearances include Fi-Hankra dancers, a group founded in 2010 by Ghanaian artists who aspire to share traditional African culture through their drumming and dance; the Lions of Zion, a Street Art Production break-dance crew; world-renowned classical pianist Gila Goldstein; jump rope artist Abra Kayne; and children from the Bialik-Rogozin School in Tel Aviv.
BALKAN BEAT BOX have earned a worldwide reputation as an explosive, unique and outspoken group, and GIVE further sets them apart. Inspired by last year’s people’s protest movements across the globe–from the Arab Spring, to Occupy Wall St., to Israel’s own massive social protests–GIVE captures the cautious hope and heated spirit of our time.
That hopefulness emerges most fully on “Part Of The Glory,” a meditation on the role of social media and YouTube, which horn player Ori Kaplan describes as “how we all have something unique in us; how we have these glorious talents that we display on YouTube. But how in spite of that we live with this shadow society of migrant workers and ‘illegal aliens’ who run the engines of our world, and how we choose to ignore them in real life.”
GIVE is the group’s most musically intense and lyrically conscious album yet. It’s a reflection of how life has evolved for each member personally and takes an honest and sobering look at current international issues while offering hope in a Mediterranean-inflected, globalized electronica sound, as only BALKAN BEAT BOX can do.
