BUZZ BUILDS FOR
BOB SCHNEIDER’S
LATEST RELEASE ‘A PERFECT DAY’
OUT APRIL 19 (KIRTLAND RECORDS)
WITH SXSW APPEARANCES
AND EXTENDED HEADLINING TOUR
Currently on a headlining tour performing new material and fan favorites with more dates just added and more to be announced soon (either with his band or solo–see below), SCHNEIDER will return home to Austin to play shows March 17-19 at the annual South By Southwest music conference.
SCHNEIDER–who has won 24 Austin Music Awards since his 1999 debut, including “Best Singer-Songwriter,” “Best Band,” “Best Vocals” and “Musician of the Year”–will perform four shows in three days (full SXSW itinerary below). The versatile artist will play one show with Bob Schneider’s Texas Bluegrass Massacre, another with The Scabs, plus two shows as a solo artist, including a set for good friend and fan Rachael Ray at her Feedback Party Saturday (3/19) at Stubb’s.
In the midst of his successful headlining tour, SCHNEIDER is delivering fun, relaxed and intimate sets for his loyal allegiance of fans, taking requests for old favorites and previewing new material from A PERFECT DAY, including the first single “Let The Light In.”
Seattle Weekly’s Dave Lake praised the 2/23/11 solo acoustic set:
“…funny, charming, and full of heart. You just sort of root for the guy because he's so darn likable…Schneider, a Texas troubadour with jam-band roots, has emerged from the Austin music scene as one of its most versatile songwriters. Schneider was at ease all by himself onstage, a confidence honed through years of touring and a weekly Monday-night residence in Austin…Schneider may not be the most famous purveyor of his craft, but he's certainly among the most admired, both by his peers and by his fans–both because of his versatility and the sheer amount of heart he puts into his work.” (2/24/11)
Elsewhere, Paul Lyons of OCReloaded.com recounted the 2/21/11 Los Angeles show in much the same light. He wrote:
“…[the] set filled with sounds and laughs that charmed and thrilled the room…Sitting comfortably for the entire solo show, Bob Schneider played a set of songs that mixed a variety of genres together…folk music, country, pop, rock, and even rap music. With a voice as friendly and versatile as Dave Matthews, lyrics that rival the humor and eccentricities of Loudon Wainwright III and Beck, a laid back attitude and style similar to James Taylor and the biting rap rhythms of Eminem…Bob Schneider certainly brings a lot to the table…Some of the music he played was so soft, and delicate…you didn't want breathe for fear Bob Schneider might break. Other songs were heavy, loud, and aggressive…in a good way…a great example of an eclectic artist doing his best to show you the wide variety of things he is able to do.” (2/22/11)
Known for his candid and razor-sharp lyrics as well as his unique blend of rock, country, folk, blues, pop and funk, SCHNEIDER shines on A PERFECT DAY. The album’s first track and single “Let The Light In” weaves in references to the Wicked Witch and the Tin Man from The Wizard of Oz, and according to SCHNEIDER, “I’m perplexed about where this stuff comes from, but I imagine the Wicked Witch is some representation of an ex, who is finally ready to go out and have some fun.”
Other highlights on the album include “Another Bad Idea” (the subject is love), “Everything You Love” (he sings “God will destroy/Everything you love/If you live long enough”) and “Penelope Cruz,” where he longs for a love that’s out of reach (“I wanna make a baby with Elizabeth Taylor/Around 19 and 57”) and reveals: “I wanna fall in love like I was falling off the face of the earth/I wanna fall forever/But every day/My dreams seem farther and farther away.”
