DAN LE SAC VS SCROOBIUS PIP INK DEAL WITH
SAGE FRANCIS’ STRANGE FAMOUS RECORDS FOR THE U.S. RELEASE OF THEIR DEBUT ALBUM ‘ANGLES’ SEPTEMBER 2
ALBUM FEATURES FIRST SINGLE “LOOK FOR THE WOMAN”
BRITAIN’S HOTTEST EXPORT CONFIRMED FOR FALL NORTH AMERICAN TOUR
"Silently I step up with a subversive subtext, trying to feed the need for more than just remedial subjects. I place my faith in the belief that the general public, will open up to more than just an industry puppet"
– dan le sac vs Scroobius Pip from “Waiting For The Beat To Kick In”
With over four million views of their videos on Youtube, two U.K. chart-topping smash singles (“Thou Shalt Always Kill,” “Beat That My Heart Skipped”) and stellar performances in the U.S. earlier this year at Coachella and SXSW already under their belts, Britain’s hottest export–the duo of DAN LE SAC VS. SCROOBIUS PIP—have announced they have inked a deal with Sage Francis’ Strange Famous Records for the U.S. release of their debut album ANGLES. Due out September 2, the album combines the witty and shockingly spot-on decrees from the mind of vocalist Pip with producer le sac’s mesmeric electro-blessed beats. The first single will be “Look For The Woman.”
In conjunction with the release of Angles, dan le sac vs Scroobius Pip will return to North America for a 19-date run, kicking off September 14 at the Monolith Festival in Morrison, CO. Their string of live shows, which consist of miscellaneous props, humor and crushing instrumental breakdowns, will be supported by Strange Famous label mate B. Dolan and includes their first-ever stops in Madison, Minneapolis, Ames, Boston, Portland and more. The trek also includes two nights at the Mercury Lounge in New York City and returns to cities like Los Angeles, Austin, Chicago and San Francisco.
In constant contention with perceived wisdom and at issue with the sanctity of pop-culture's sacred cows, dan le sac Vs Scroobius Pip have become the new faces of 'outsider pop.’ Visually they defy any prefab industry model, their towering structures of Casio-enthused electro-hip-pop are alien to the conventions of radio programming, and their lyrics even dare to ask questions of themselves and the listener. Yet they have become airwave and chart regulars, responsible for the salient singles, the aforementioned “Thou Shalt Always Kill,” “Beat That My Heart Skipped” and the Radiohead sampling “A Letter From God To Man,” all of which appear on Angles.
The album represents a broader, deeper and ever more thrilling indictment, enthused with a wit and hubris that is entirely their own. Opening with “Beat That My Heart Skipped”–an up-tempo lament on the perils of one Britain's most sadly embraced pastimes (going to clubs to pick up girls)–it is an album instantly subversive with its dry wit and immediate beats. The title track and “Magician's Assistant” both cut straight to the core of individualism and media-induced inertia. Alongside the dance floor mess of “Back From Hell” and “Rapper's Battle,” Angles lead single “Look For The Woman” brings the soul and warmth of personal sentiment in what Scroobius describes as "the love song for those sick of love songs."
dan le sac vs Scroobius Pip burst onto the U.K.’s independent rap scene last year with their first single “Thou Shalt Always Kill” which emerged victorious as the thinking man’s anthem upon its release last year. The song quickly became the most publicly requested track on XFM’s Xposure show. Rave reviews followed, with The Guardian (London) endorsing it as “2007’s first underground anthem” and NME enthusing “Scroobius Pip, you've written the Track Of The Year. Thou shalt buy this song and listen to it every day until the sun swallows the earth.” Radio rotation rocketed with BBC Radio 1’s Zane Lowe naming it the “Hottest Track in The World Right Now,” and later his “Single Of The Week.” Following “Thou Shalt Always Kill” came “Beat That My Heart Skipped,” which received widespread and strong support on nationwide radio (Jo Whiley, Zane Lowe, John Kennedy, Rob Da Bank, etc) that took off where “Thou Shalt Always Kill,” the daring duo’s debut, left off.
