DAVE GAHAN’S NORTH AMERICAN TREK STARTS JULY 18;
JIMMY KIMMEL OUTDOOR STAGE PERFORMANCE SET FOR AUGUST 20;
NEW SINGLE IS ‘I NEED YOU’
As North American audiences anticipate the July 18 launch of DAVE GAHAN’s first solo tour, he’s been thrilling fans overseas with invigorating sold-out concerts in support of his newly released PAPER MONSTERS album (Mute/Reprise).GAHAN’s stateside trek will be highlighted with his first solo U.S. television performance August 20 on Jimmy Kimmel Live’s outdoor stage.
GAHAN, who co-wrote all of PAPER MONSTERS’ 10 tracks with multi-instrumentalist Knox Chandler, will next release the pulsing “I Need You” single, which will be available as a maxi-single with various re-mixes. GAHAN raises the temperature on “I Need You” which reveals a bold, confrontational side of the charismatic artist: “With all of your gold, stories all told, some things just aren’t meant to be/You live in the past, shadows don’t last, this time it’s all about me.” Additionally, the blues-soaked “Bottle Living” track will be released to Modern Rock radio. Newsday’s PAPER MONSTERS CD review (5/27/03) noted that “‘Bottle Living’ angrily conjures up his own personal demons (‘He’s living for the bottle, so call before you drown’) over a wailing harmonica and an ominous, driving rhythm track that makes it sound like the sequel to ‘Personal Jesus.’”
In GAHAN’s Flaunt magazine feature story (summer issue), writer Ken Scrudato summarized PAPER MONSTERS by citing how “Gahan’s voice sounds more raw, honest and viscerally charged than it has in years as he dredges up all the murk, mire, hope, and faith to be found in various corners of his tattered soul. And, abetted by ubiquitous New York musician Knox Chandler, as well as Sigur Ros producer Ken Thomas, the music also soars beyond all expectation.”
So far, GAHAN’s set lists have blended tunes from PAPER MONSTERS with some of his favorite Depeche Mode songs. DAVE is backed on the road by guitarist Knox Chandler, bass player Martyn Lenoble, keyboardist Vincent Jones and drummer Victor Indrizzo.
