DAVID BOWIE's first studio album in three years, HEATHEN (ISO Records/Columbia Records), will be released on June 11th, marking the artist's first studio collaboration in more than two decades with producer Tony Visconti, who has worked with BOWIE on numerous albums throughout his career, including Young Americans, Low, Heroes and Scary Monsters (and Super Creeps). As a musician, performer and songwriter, DAVID BOWIE is an artist who continually defies convention to re-invent himself and his art. From his folkie beginnings to the glitter and glam of Ziggy Stardust, to the elegance of the Thin White Duke, BOWIE has given the world a series of iconic characters that have helped to re-define the parameters of popular culture. BOWIE's first releases included classics such as Man of Words, Man of Music; The Man Who Sold The World; Hunky Dory; and The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and The Spiders from Mars.
His subsequent efforts continued to up the ante in terms of innovation and artistic merit, and included Aladdin Sane; Pin-Ups (a tribute to the artists BOWIE admired in the London years of '64-'67); Diamond Dogs (A William Burroughs' inspired proto-"Bladerunner" project); The live, double album David Live; Young Americans (which included "Fame," a collaboration with John Lennon which went on to become BOWIE's first ever No. 1 single in the US); Station to Station; ChangesOneBOWIE, a compilation of greatest hits; Low; Heroes; Stage, a live album; Lodger; Scary Monsters; ChangesTwoBOWIE, another greatest hits compilation; Let's Dance; Ziggy Stardust: The Motion Picture Album, which captured Ziggy and the Spiders during their last show; Tonight; Tin Machine; Sound and Vision; Black Tie White Noise; Outside; Earthling; and hours…
Over the years BOWIE's contributions as a producer have also been highly influential, including his work on such releases as Lou Reed's Transformer and Mott the Hoople's All The Young Dudes, for which he wrote the hit title track. He also produced and collaborated with Iggy Pop on Raw Power, The Idiot and Lust for Life. In addition, his many children's projects include a narration for "Peter and the Wolf" with the Philadelphia Orchestra. His work has been heard in dozens of major movies and covered by as many artists. In the dance world, his track "Let's Dance" has been one of the most sampled of all time.
Never one to limit his efforts as an artist to any one medium, DAVID BOWIE has also made a considerable impact as an actor, earning critical acclaim with such films as "The Man Who Fell To Earth"; "Merry Christmas, Mr. Lawrence"; "The Hunger"; "Labyrinth"; "Into the Night"; "The Last Temptation of Christ"; and "Basquiat." BOWIE has also appeared on Broadway, playing John Merrick in "The Elephant Man."
