BOWIE CLIMAXES FIRST LEG OF NORTH AMERICAN 'A REALITY TOUR' WITH FOUR SOLD-OUT SHOWS IN LOS ANGELES
BEFORE HEADING OVERSEAS FOR MORE DATES
DAVID BOWIE concluded the first leg of his North American "A Reality Tour" with four sold-out shows in Los Angeles, plus a stop-over in Las Vegas, that drew vast critical acclaim and star-studded audiences.
This past weekend, BOWIE performed at Hard Rock Hotel’s The Joint on Friday night (2/6) in Vegas–a show that brought out both Francis Ford Coppola and Sofia Coppola, who chatted with BOWIE after the show. He then headed into Los Angeles for his fourth L.A. show, this one on Saturday night (2/7) at the Wiltern, which was attended by Edward Norton, Rosanna Arquette, Gary Oldman, Dermot Mulroney, Mary Stuart Masterson, John Stamos, Rachel Hunter, David Caruso, Simon Baker (star of CBS’ “The Guardian”), Ian Astbury (The Cult, Doors of the 21st Century), Bob Geldof, Incubus guitarist Mark Einziger and Danny Lohner of Nine Inch Nails.
Saturday night's show followed BOWIE's three other L.A. gigs: one earlier in the week at the Wiltern (2/3) was attended by Leonardo DiCaprio, Nine Inch Nails frontman Trent Reznor, Patricia Arquette, Curt Smith of Tears For Fears, Sex Pistol guitarist Steve Jones and influential KROQ DJ Rodney Bingenheimer, who came onstage before the encore to further excite the crowd. "Now this is reality!" exclaimed Bingheimer (who's also the subject of the upcoming documentary film “The Mayor of the Sunset Strip,” in which Bowie appears).
BOWIE’s first night at L.A.’s Shrine Auditorium (Saturday, 1/31) lured Charlize Theron and Naomi Watts—both nominated for Best Actress Oscars this year—along with Heath Ledger, David Spade, Trent Reznor, Slash of Velvet Revolver and Tears For Fears’ Roland Orzabal.
The second Shrine show (Monday, 2/2) also attracted an eclectic mix of actors and musicians: Lisa Marie Presley; Scarlett Johansson; Elijah Wood and Dominic Monaghan, both from “Lord of The Rings”; Evan Rachel Wood of the film “Thirteen”; Gwen Stefani and the members of No Doubt (Adrian Young, Tom Dumont, Tony Kanal); Martin Gore of Depeche Mode; Perry Farrell of Jane's Addiction; Ian Astbury; Margaret Cho; and Frank Black, whose Pixies song “Cactus” was covered by BOWIE on his Heathen album and that night at the Shrine.
BOWIE’s set lists included an array of classics and deep album cuts along with songs from his new album REALITY (among them “New Killer Star,” for which BOWIE was honored with a Best Male Rock Vocal Grammy nomination).
BOWIE will now head to Australia, New Zealand, Japan, Singapore and Hong Kong before returning to Philadelphia March 29 for the second North American leg of his “A Reality Tour” that will conclude with two New York area shows June 4 and 5. Immediately following the new North American dates, BOWIE will revisit Europe and the U.K.–where the worldwide tour was launched last October–for select festival dates, including a headlining appearance at the Britain’s Isle of Wight festival June 13. The influential rock legend’s first major world tour in nearly a decade will encompass 17 countries.
