THE LONG AWAITED DAVID BOWIE ALBUMS 'ALL SAINTS' AND 'CHRISTIANE F.' TO BE RELEASED BY VIRGIN RECORDS
Woodland Hills, CA
August 1, 2001
Virgin Records is proud to announce the release of the highly anticipated David Bowie instrumental album, ALL SAINTS (Collected Instrumentals 1977-1999).
Coinciding with the release of this rare instrumental album, Virgin will also be releasing the CHRISTIANE F. soundtrack for the first time on CD. Both will be available in stores on September 11.
ALL SAINTS is a collection of Bowie's ambient, instrumental work and was first compiled by David in 1993 as a Christmas present for his friends, and is highly sought after by fans. David's original gift was a 2-CD set, but for this, its first commercial release, it has been recompiled to a single CD with new artwork and a different tracklisting.
Q Magazine in the UK talked of the release with incredible reverie saying 'Bowie may well be the only person to suit an instrumental compilation, such is the quality of this stuff!'
The sound of these records has been hugely influential over the intervening twenty years and the European reviews of the albums have noted their shadow being cast over artists such as Radiohead and the current boom of 'chillout' music.
The London Times draws a direct line between some of the songs and their influence on Radiohead by saying that the albums from which the tracks were culled were 'The Kid A and Amnesiac of their day'.
Elsewhere The London Times evocatively describe ALL SAINTS as; 'Arguably his most beautiful work'.
ALL SAINTS features brand new artwork designed by David himself and is musically brought up to date with the inclusion of tracks from the critically lauded 'BUDDHA OF SUBURBIA' and 'Brilliant Adventure' from David's last studio album, 'HOURS….'
All tracks on ALL SAINTS have been remastered for this release and three tracks, 'All Saints,' 'Abdulmajid' and 'Crystal Japan' are currently unavailable on any other release.
CHRISTIANE F. was originally released twenty years ago as the soundtrack to the movie Christiane F. Wir Kinder Vom Bahnhof Zoo. The film told the true story of a teenage girl's battle with drug addiction.
David also contributes a cameo appearance, as himself, during the film in the form of a stunning live performance of classic 'Station To Station.'
This long deleted album was recently described in the UK's prestigious Sunday Times Magazine as; 'The ideal European Bowie cd for the car, containing the funk of 'Station To Station' with the art pop of 'TVC 15' and 'Boys Keep Swinging'.
The compilation makes selection from three years of Bowie's recorded works from 1976 to 1979, that included four studio albums: 'Station To Station,' the fabled 'Berlin Trilogy' of 'Low,' 'Heroes' and 'Lodger' and the 1978 live album 'Stage.'
The album as it contains many highlights from that period soon became a firm favorite among fans. Though it has never had an official CD release until now, CHRISTIANE F. has appeared on pirate CD on no less than three separate occasions in recent years.
Part of the attraction for fans of David's late 70's period are that the edits of the songs 'Stay' and 'TVC 15' on CHRISTIANE F. are currently unavailable on any other album and it is the only place where David's Anglo/German version of the anthem 'Heroes/Helden' is available.
Of these two releases The London Times has the final word saying that;
'For the Kid A and Amnesiac generation they are certainly worth rediscovering'.
Virgin Records is proud to announce the official release of both these rare and highly sought-after Bowie albums.
