DEEP DISH WIN GRAMMY FOR “BEST REMIXED RECORDING”
FOR THEIR REMIX OF DIDO’S “THANK YOU”
AWARD-WINNING DUO TO PERFORM DURING
THE WINTER MUSIC CONFERENCE
IN MIAMI AT CLUB SPACE MARCH 23 AND SPIN MARCH 26
“Éthere may be no better live deejay act right now than DEEP DISH.” –Steve Baltin, LOS ANGELES TIMES (January 2, 2002)
DEEP DISH–Ali “Dubfire” Shirazinia and Sharam Tayebi–won their first-ever Grammy award for the “Best Remixed Recording” category for their remix of Dido’s hit single “Thank You.” This win comes from the duo’s second consecutive nomination in a dance music category. As leaders in the international dance music arena who are highly acclaimed for their list of remix work which includes heavy hitters such as Madonna, *NSYNC, Janet Jackson, The Rolling Stones and Depeche Mode, DEEP DISH were honored and surprised by this accolade.
Says Dubfire of DEEP DISH, “We are elated and over the moon about our win. We hope it inspires like-minded individuals within our industry to become as involved as we have been within the academy (NARAS) in establishing and representing our scene.”
Tayebi adds, “This win is not only for us but what we represent in the dance scene. It’s another stepping stone in representing and promoting proper dance music in America. Hopefully this will encourage more dance producers to become academy members.”
Next up for DEEP DISH is a dual appearance at the upcoming Winter Music Conference in Miami. The DJ/producer/remixer team will headline the Yoshitoshi Label party with a 12 hour set at Club Space Saturday, March 23 and their new DJ booking agency Bullitt Bookings party at Spin Tuesday, March 26.
Meanwhile, DEEP DISH continue on their national U.S. tour until the end of March with a European, South American and Asian jaunt to follow in support of their current release GLOBAL UNDERGROUND–DEEP DISH “MOSCOW.”
In addition, DEEP DISH was ranked #2 in the “Best Dance/DJ Artist” category by the critics of Rolling Stone for their music awards of 2001. The Washington DC-based pair also placed #10 in DJ Magazine’s World’s Top 100 DJ’s readers poll for 2001–a direct result of their extensive touring and constantly sold-out residencies in San Francisco, Miami, Washington D.C., New York, London and beyond.
