DISTURBED
CONFIRMED TO HEADLINE OZZFEST SECOND STAGE THIS SUMMER;
LEAD SINGER DAVID DRAIMAN TO APPEAR
ON ‘POLITICALLY INCORRECT’ MARCH 7 AT MIDNIGHT ET/PT
One year after their overwhelming success as the breakout band on Ozzfest 2000, platinum rockers DISTURBED will return to the prominent summer festival tour in June. For Ozzfest 2001, the band–DAVID DRAIMAN (vocals), DAN DONEGAN (guitar), FUZZ (bass) and MIKE WENGREN (drums, programming)–will headline the newly revamped second stage, which for the first time, is designed to accommodate a minimum of 15,000 fans in a general admission setting. The expanded stage will also allow DISTURBED the freedom to use more of their stage production at each venue. After a year of non-stop radio, MTV and press exposure, the group opted for this 6:00 PM second stage headlining slot as opposed to a main stage position so they could be up front and close to their fans at each performance.
This major tour announcement comes in the midst of string of high profile treks for DISTURBED. They’ve just wrapped up a major European tour with Marilyn Manson and will launch a spring U.S. headlining tour in St. Louis on March 16 (full itinerary to be announced soon). Since the release of their platinum-plus debut THE SICKNESS (Giant), DISTURBED have also appeared on the high profile MTV Return Of The Rock II Tour with Stone Temple Pilots and Godsmack and performed at key holiday radio shows in major markets including Los Angeles (KROQ), Chicago (Q101), Washington, DC (WHFS), San Francisco (Live 105) last December.
Meanwhile, the band’s current single “Voices” maintains a strong presence at radio and the video for “Voices” (directed by Gregory Dark) can be seen on MTV. At the same time, the album’s long-running first radio track “Stupify” has achieved a noteworthy distinction on the Radio & Records Active Rock chart: only DISTURBED’s “Stupify” and Godsmack’s “Whatever” have charted for a record-setting 45 consecutive weeks. At the same time, THE SICKNESS continues to receive critical acclaim, as noted in the band’s February 12 Pollstar cover story. Writer Martin Reed lauded: “Mind, body and soul–Disturbed is 127 percent rock ‘n’ roll. Fueled by an unyielding passion for nonconformity, the group’s immediate result is found on its platinum-selling Giant Records debut bursting with distortion-heavy grooves and singer David Draiman’s unique vocals.”
On Wednesday, March 7 at midnight ET/PT, DISTURBED will gain public exposure in a new realm when DRAIMAN appears on the ABC celebrity debate program “Politically Incorrect.” Through this forum, the thought-provoking frontman will have the opportunity to voice his opinions on various highly-charged political topics.
