SHOWCASES HER IN-PROGRESS
CREATIVE WORK OF ART
EMILIO
JUNE 17 AT POP UP ART SHOW
IN LOS ANGELES
![]() Los Angeles-based artist and designer DIVA ZAPPA showcased her in-progress, creative work of art Emilio this past weekend (June 17) at a joint art show with her friend Evan York. The dual pop up show–a one-night-only event–on Los Angeles’ Melrose Ave also premiered Evan’s 100-foot-long drawing “The Connection Of Everything.” For the standing-room-only opening night event, DIVA sat at work on Emilio while attendees mingled and reflected on both pieces of art. ZAPPA has been knitting Emilio for the last 10 years and he has travelled the world with her. He is currently somewhere around 350 feet long with the plan to grow him to 5,280 feet which could take at least another 15 years to accomplish. The construction of Emilio is a lifelong passion project for DIVA. Previously, Emilio had been a part of DIVA‘s art shows in Los Angeles and London.
![]() In her artist statement for the show, DIVA says:
“As I sit here knitting Emilio I create a visual of time passing. Every stitch adds up. Every step we take creates the world we are in…no matter how small the gesture, how small the effort, it adds up.
In my hardest moments, where I am most lost, I knit.
In my happiest moments, I knit.
Emilio is my living journal and he shares the passing of time in every stitch. He is proof that small efforts add up.
Don’t give up.
Every stitch and step adds up to who we are.
