LIMITED EDITION DELUXE VERSION OF ‘THE MEANEST OF TIMES’ CD
OUT NOW
DROPKICK MURPHYS recently played their annual string of sold-out headlining St. Patrick’s Day shows in Boston before heading overseas for a European trek with multiple sold-out shows, and now the band has even more to celebrate. The group’s single "I'm Shipping Up To Boston” has been certified gold by the RIAA with sales of over 500,000 copies. “I’m Shipping Up To Boston”–from 2005’s The Warrior’s Code CD which has sold over 250,000 copies–gained mainstream notoriety after being prominently featured in Martin Scorsese's film The Departed. It can be commonly heard as a theme song for many sports teams (even outside of Boston), was featured on a recent episode of “The Simpsons” and was the title track for Discovery Channel series “Lobster Wars” in 2007. The song has also remained in the Top 20 on iTunes “Ringtones” chart for the majority of the past 18 months.
In other news, DROPKICK MURPHYS released a deluxe limited edition of their current CD THE MEANEST OF TIMES (Born & Bred Records/ILG) on March 11 as a special treat for fans just in time for St. Patrick’s Day. The original CD version entered the Billboard Top 200 at #20 and has sold over 130,000 copies. The deluxe CD includes five extra tracks and a bonus DVD with a mini-movie of the band's St. Patrick's Day charity breakfast in Boston, the music video for "The State Of Massachusetts" along with behind-the-scenes footage from the shoot and a celebration of the band's trip to victory with the Boston Red Sox.
DROPKICK MURPHYS–KEN CASEY (vocals, bass guitar), AL BARR (vocals), MATT KELLY (drums, backing vocals), JAMES LYNCH (guitar, backing vocals), TIM BRENNAN (guitar, accordion, piano, backing vocals), JEFF DaROSA (mandolin, accordion, banjo, bouzouki, tin whistle, acoustic guitar) and SCRUFFY WALLACE (bagpipes)– will tour Europe through April 12 and are continuing to receive rave reviews for their intense live performances. In a recent review in Kerrang!, writer Terry Bezer noted: “…they never, ever disappoint in the live environment…the Boston veterans sprint through a set that’s jam-packed with beer-saturated punk ‘n’ roll anthems, crafted to get the fists pumping, the Guinness spilling and to always ensure that the good times roll…the Murphys showcase just why they have earned a reputation for being one of the greatest live bands on the planet” (March 8, 2008).
