ELECTRIC MONKEY RECORDS TO RELEASE ‘AMOUR’ AMER’ BY SINGER/SONGWRITER JOËL VIRGEL JANUARY 13
Set for release on Electric Monkey Records January 13, AMOUR AMER–which translates as ‘bittersweet love’ in French–is the wildly romantic and incredibly sexy album from singer/songwriter JOËL VIRGEL. The fourteen songs on Amour Amer blend Bossa Nova, Soul, Afro-Beat and sophisticated melodies with a combination of sensual French and English lyrics, a direct result of the artist’s upbringing in the French Caribbean Island of Guadeloupe and Paris.
It’s been almost a year since JOËL’s single “Won’t Take No,” remixed by the likes of Marques Wyatt and Giorgio Moroder, made a splash on CMJ charts. Now a Los Angeles resident, JOËL is ready to unleash his talents through his debut long-player after years of performing as a back-up singer for the likes of the Red Hot Chili Peppers and The Wild Colonials. Currently, JOËL has been performing with his label mates The Latin Project as the lead on their current CMJ chart-topper “Lei Lo Lai.”
The album highlights JOËL’s gift for creating haunting melodies and infectious beats on an array of original songs like the captivating “Losing Me,” the catchy “Anais Nin” and the club favorite “Won’t Take No.” JOËL also pays homage to some of his favorite artists with unique renditions of The Velvet Underground (“Femme Fatale”) and Serge Gainsbourg (“La Chanson De Slogan”) classics. Says JOËL, “I try to just be myself, not to make anything contrived, just say what I’m going for and what’s left are real and honest stories.”
