IS MOVING IN ANYTHING BUT ‘SLOW MOTION’:
BAND TO DEBUT NEW SINGLE ON ‘LATE NIGHT WITH CONAN O’BRIEN’ U.S. TOUR TO KICK OFF AS NEW ALBUM IS EMBRACED BY CRITICS
“I want to believe in this world
I want to believe in this life
I want to believe in a world
That does not seem real
When I read the New York Times”
–“The New York Times” by EVERCLEAR
Look for EVERCLEAR to debut their new single “The New York Times” Friday, March 28th on “Late Night With Conan O’Brien.” Due at radio in April while the band is in the midst of a headlining national tour, the song is a highlight from their newly released album SLOW MOTION DAYDREAM (released 3/11/03 on Capitol), where “…loud guitars fuel sophisticated pop of brains and heart,” noted Steve Appleford in the Los Angeles Times (3/9/03).
Elsewhere, Glenn Gamboa of Newsday (3/11/03), noted that the band’s sixth album “…plays like a counterculture call-to-arms, one guitar-heavy anthem after another that encourage listeners to stand up for their beliefs. If Bruce Springsteen's The Rising offered reassurances that life would go on in post-terrorist-attack America, Everclear takes the next step–calling for America's youth to build the country they want, not accept the one handed down to them.” Gamboa goes on to say that “‘The New York Times’ shows what a dramatic leap forward Everclear has made on its latest album, striving for greatness and reaching it.”
“It's really a song to America,” frontman ART ALEXAKIS told Newsday, adding that “it’s a song that says, ‘We're better than this. We're better than what we're accepting.'” ALEXAKIS is critical of “the election of 2000, the economy, the joblessness,” as he told the Daily Insider news service (3/12/03). “When I roll through Smalltown, USA, there are so many empty stores. Where this country was five years ago is like a million miles away.”
EVERCLEAR–singer/songwriter/guitarist ART ALEXAKIS, bassist CRAIG MONTOYA and drummer GREG EKLUND–will be bringing their “catchy vocal hooks and fervent guitar solos, layered over driving rhythms” (Sarah Tomlinson, BOSTON GLOBE, 3/14/03) beginning April 1 in Kansas City, MO. Tour dates are as follows, with many more to be added.
