EVERCLEAR–currently charting with two albums, the platinum SONGS FROM AN AMERICAN MOVIE, VOL. ONE: LEARNING HOW TO SMILE and the new soon-to-be-gold SONGS FROM AN AMERICAN MOVIE, VOL. TWO: GOOD TIME FOR A BAD ATTITUDE–will launch their first full-scale concert tour in over two years February 1 in Rochester, NY. After a headlining swing encompassing Canada and a few American cities, they'll hook-up February 27 in Minneapolis, MN with Matchbox Twenty on an arena tour.
EVERCLEAR's set list will include the two singles they're currently charted with, the pop-textured "AM Radio" and the brash "When It All Goes Wrong Again." Singer/songwriter/guitarist ART ALEXAKIS steps into the director's chair again for the "When It All Goes Wrong" video. Shot in the band's hometown of Portland, OR, it is highlighted by a potent live performance of the song in front of rabid EVERCLEAR fans.
Meanwhile, EVERCLEAR–rounded out by bassist CRAIG MONTOYA and drummer GREG EKLUND–are continuing to earn critical acclaim for GOOD TIME FOR A BAD ATTITUDE. To wit:
"…it's an impressive act of self-revelation-and a slamming good listen, to boot. Whereas the marginally lighter first disc dabbled in poppier textures, 'Good Time For A Bad Attitude' cranks up the guitars for a healthy bout of catharsis in a more band-like attack…'Short Blonde Hair' addresses Alexakis's fear of aging and expresses the impossible dream of a kid who grew up hurting: 'All I ever wanted to do was to learn how to break this world in two.' Whether he realizes it or not, Art Alexakis has come close to doing that in his two-part masterpiece."
–(HHHH) Parke Puterbaugh, SOUND & VISION, January 2001"…this baby plays like a kick-in-the-kishkes chaser. They bring back the smashing-glass guitar noise of their debut album 'World of Noise,' but leave in some melodies…they've also introduced a surprising appreciation for over-the-top '70s arena rock, and the result is the best air-guitar album in years…a power band with hooks and vocals…"
–(HHHHH) Kirk Miller, STUFF, January 2001"…bad moods are something this guy (Art Alexakis) understands. His great subject is the family: it's scary being a husband, it's even scarier being a father, and as Michael Corleone said to Fredo, it's not easy being a son. 'When It All Goes Wrong Again,' 'Slide' and 'Misery Whip' are the standouts here, venting everyday domestic frustrations with enough melodic and lyrical grace to turn these frustrations into good, painful jokes."
–(HHH *) Rob Sheffield, ROLLING STONE, December 14, 2000"This one has more meaty hooks than a butcher's walk-in freezer. Play both sets ('Volume One' and 'Volume Two') back to back, though, and you've got one of the finest double-albums in some time."
–(Grade: A-) Ben Wener, ORANGE COUNTY REGISTER, November 17, 2000
As the critics continue to sing the band's praises, ALEXAKIS explains how the poppier LEARNING HOW TO SMILE and the louder GOOD TIME FOR A BAD ATTITUDE co-exist. "The two albums are companions, but they don't like each other," he said recently in a January 2001 Penthouse feature. "They're like siblings. They go to family functions, but they don't hang out. And, at the end, they say they'll call each other, but they never do."
