FUEL’S
SECOND CD ‘SOMETHING LIKE HUMAN’ CERTIFIED GOLD
AS SINGLE ‘HEMORRHAGE’ CONTINUES TO GAIN AIRPLAY;
TOUR DATES SCHEDULED THROUGH MID-DECEMBER
As their new single “Hemorrhage (In My Hands)” continues its reign at #1 on the Billboard Modern Rock Tracks chart, FUEL have earned another gold record. The SOMETHING LIKE HUMAN CD-released September 19 on 550/Sony-marks the group’s second gold-seller, while their 1998 debut CD SUNBURN has been certified platinum.
“Hemorrhage,” with its driving guitar and infectious hook, is also garnering significant airplay on MTV and the group will perform it live on national television on the “Late Late Show With Craig Kilborn” Monday, November 13.
FUEL—BRETT SCALLIONS, lead vocals/guitar; CARL BELL, guitar/vocals; JEFF ABERCROMBIE, bass and KEVIN MILLER, drums–continue to add tour dates to their headlining tour schedule, with three shows scheduled for the Whisky in Los Angeles November 14-16. The group performed over 450 shows in support of the SUNBURN CD, including spots opening for Aerosmith and Creed and they’ve shared the stage with Vertical Horizon and Buckcherry, among others. That CD featured the massive radio hit “Shimmer,” named by Radio & Records magazine as the most-played track on Modern Rock radio in 1998.
Critics have hailed FUEL‘s unrelenting passion and hard-driving rock music. The Philadelphia Inquirer recently said, “Carl Bell draws from the Bible to Dylan Thomas, the Scorpions to Elton John, and intuitively grasps the merits of marching actual tunes through his power chord barrage. Which makes Fuel not only dangerous and different, but also pretty darned easy to hum.” In a review of “Hemorrhage,” Billboard raved, “These guys are right where it’s at, baby, blending fierce instrumentation (including not only the expected wall of gritty guitars and pounding percussion but well-placed strings, too) with the ‘damn the world’ vocals of lead singer/guitarist Brett Scallions and songwriting of guitarist/vocalist Carl Bell. Best of all, these guys didn’t forget that behind the music, there’s got to be an anthemic chorus that’ll keep the kids coming.”
FUEL‘s chief songwriter CARL BELL says the new CD marks a more distinct definition of the group’s sound. “With the first record, it was our first time in a major studio, and we learned a lot along the way. For this record, we made it the way we wanted to, along with producer Ben Grosse (Filter, Vertical Horizon).” In writing the new songs, BELL says, “I can do a demo and the song can sound really cool, but when the band comes together and we play it, the magic of what Fuel is comes out. When we started the process, I was of a mind that the songs had to be undeniable. I was not going to rest until I had those undeniable songs. That’s why I spent two years in the back of the bus writing this record and really hammering it out, trying to make sure that we could take advantage of the situation that was in front of us.”
