GETTIN' HORNY WITH GREEN DAY: The word is out: GREEN DAY—BILLIE JOE ARMSTRONG (vocals, guitar), MIKE DIRNT (bass, vocals) and TRE' COOL (drums)– have added a horn section to their line-up. Brodie Johnson (trombone) and Joe McNally (trumpet) of Voodoo Glow Skulls premiered this new sound on April 30 in Houston, TX at Bayou Place–the first gig on GREEN DAY's headlining tour. This horn section's short-but-sweet visit will end May 6 in Myrtle Beach, SC, when Gabe McNair (trombone) and Stephen Bradley (trumpet) become part of the troupe on May 9 in Asbury Park, NJ for the duration of the tour. McNair and Bradley aren't new to the GREEN DAY family. They played horns on "King For A Day" from the band's platinum NIMROD album, which Circus described as "an unashamed ode to cross dressing decked in mariachi brass." No need for fans of GREEN DAY to worry about what this new sound may do to the performance of punk's baddest boys. The horns will most assuredly add a magical touch to GREEN DAY's intense live performance that was recently praised by Steffan Chirazi of Launch, who noted: "GREEN DAY live…are a big, fat, grinning, leaping, face-pulling, jerking and jumping heap of fun. BILLIE JOE ARMSTRONG, MIKE DIRNT and TRE' COOL perform with the energy of a six-piece… and a refreshingly care-free attitude…For a great, noisy, energetic, and even nostalgic, punk rock thrashabout without sour indie attitude, GREEN DAY are perfect." Check them out at a town near you…
