ENVIRONMENTALAND is the new brainchild from GLOBAL INHERITANCE–the 501c3 non-profit organization working to reinvent activism and empower individuals to seek global balance through interactivity, inspiration and education. The interactive environmental theme park–recently featured on CNN International’s “Eco-Solutions” and E! Entertainment’s "That Morning Show"–is located at the Hollywood & Highland complex in Los Angeles and set to open its doors to the public on Thursday, October 1.
ENVIRONMENTALAND is presented by Fuel TV and will host special events in the space including: Themed Weeks that focus on a different environmental issues; How-To Workshops and Demonstrations that complement the weekly themes; The Bigger Picture which takes advantage of the power of film to explore different global, environmental and social issues; TRASHed Recycling Drives where people will receive a special reward for donating the weekly highlighted item (ie: VHS tapes, DVDs, cell phones, computer monitors, etc); Spin & Shake which is a cycling class that allows riders to create and collect electricity by pedaling specially outfitted energy generating bikes and then make a protein shake using blenders that are powered by that energy; and the Public Displays of Affection (PDA) Concert Series that features popular musicians and promotes public and group transportation. The only way to get into a PDA concert is by presenting a used metro or bus ticket that proves the attendee used public transportation to arrive to the event. Previous PDA performers include Ladytron and The Secret Machines. Look for details shortly on the next PDA event to take place this October.
The space will also feature a number of interactive permanent exhibits that have previously been seen at high profile music festivals and sporting events including the Coachella Music and Arts Festival, Treasure Island Music Festival and X Games. Visitors to the space are invited to participate in various attractions and will receive points for completing tasks as they learn about various social and environmental issues. The points can then be redeemed for prizes.
Permanent exhibits at ENVIRONMENTALAND include:
TRASHed::Art of Recycling Exhibit: Check out these redesigned recycling bins all around Environmentaland, each bin creatively imagined and painted by popular pop culture artists. Find your favorite bin and be inspired to conscientiously manage your waste and protect our natural resources.
Desert Mini Golf Course: Test your putting skills while learning about water resources at our all natural putting green. This is no normal mini golf course- the green has been replaced with rock, sand, and brush. While you play, check out the facts about water conservation and how easy it is to make simple changes that have a real impact.
18 & Up Alternative Energy Golf Carts: Hop in one of these music inspired, alternative energy outfitted golf carts and imagine yourself zooming down that sustainable golf course, listening to some sweet tunes from your favorite Coachella artists. Each golf cart is inspired by a Coachella 2009 artist and runs on renewable energy, and is accompanied by facts about alternative fuel options.
THINK BIG Mini-Bin Decorating Station: Like the decorated mini bins hanging on the walls in the sustainable merchandise store? Stop by the mini bin decorating station, and use our paints, glitter pens, and other art supplies to decorate a mini bin of your own. Use them as pen holders or display them as art to remind you to think BIG about how small actions have big results.
The Energy FACTory: Enjoy the sights and sounds of Environmentaland on a bike, a seesaw, or a hand powered listening station while powering your cellphone, digital camera and more! By riding specially designed Energy Factory equipment, all the energy you produce can be collected and used to generate electricity. While you ride, glance around at our Energy Factory posters that talk about the options, advantages, and disadvantages of conventional as well as alternative energy sources.
Recycled Paper Plane Shoot Out: Step on up and try your luck . . . and your paper folding skills! Use our stock of recycled paper, collected from Hollywood & Highland venues, to make a paper plane and aim at our Bullseye target. Depending on where you hit, you can win cool prizes as well as engage in a little friendly competition.
Portal Potties: One man’s trash is Global Inheritance’s treasure! Our Portal Potties exhibit features mobile toilets that have been re-imagined and redesigned to make different eras come to life. Learn about genres and music history along with the importance of reusing past materials to inspire the future.
Planetarium: Enter our planetarium and engage with an interactive art installation that is as beautiful as it is educational. Use a hand crank inside to power a bulb that radiates the shapes of the constellations onto the inside of our planetarium dome, made entirely from recycled paper and other sustainable materials.
WASTed On The Clock: Do you have a PHD in waste management or are you home schooled? Here’s your chance to prove your skills in 60 second dash to sort out a bin of trash/recycle/compost items. Common sense goes a long way but you’ll need some skills also to score a 10!
Sustainable Merchandise: Shoppers! Browse our Sustainable Merchandise store and find an array of limited edition organic t-shirts, tour de energy bikes, and everything from clocks to jewelry made from recycled and eco-friendly materials. All proceeds from the store go to support our non-profit so we can keep ENVIRONMENTALAND and other GI programs up and running.
Organic Challenge: Are you eating a frankenapple or organic apple….that’s the big question. Is that a veggie dog or chicken beak surprise? You’ll be blind folded as your taste buds will need to provide the answers.
