GOOD TIME FOR A NEW VIDEO: Mere hours after the band's triumphant Portland, OR homecoming show at the Rose Garden Wednesday, April 4, EVERCLEAR flew to Los Angeles–on two days off amidst their sold-out tour with Matchbox Twenty and Lifehouse–to shoot a video in the streets of North Hollywood for their forthcoming single, "Brown Eyed Girl." The video for the Van Morrison cover–taken from the platinum-certified SONGS FROM AN AMERICAN MOVIE, VOL. ONE: LEARNING HOW TO SMILE–is a concept piece directed by frontman/guitarist/songwriter ART ALEXAKIS and will feature Marla Sokoloff (ABC-TV's prime-time drama "The Practice") in a starring role, with cameos by actor Andy Dick and Lin Shaye (There's Something About Mary). Video responsibilities aside, EVERCLEAR's in-progress touring schedule continues to pick up critical acclaim at nearly every stop. The Los Angeles Times' Natalie Nichols said, "Everclear turned seriousness on its head with a cathartic and distinctive 45 minutes of often rollicking, buzzing rockĀ—|Alexakis delivered his songs with no sweeping flourishes, but rather the simple conviction of a man who knows how to convey feelings without sounding glib, while the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette's Scott Mervis raved, "You might have to go to a Springsteen show to find something as powerful as Alexakis wailing, on 'Father of Mine,' 'My daddy gave me a name, then he walked away.'" Stay tuned for the band's upcoming summer touring schedule.
