The Italian producer/DJ comes to Austin in support of his new Ultra Music label release Electroman, due out June 7, and its first single “Cinema” featuring U.K. vocalist Gary Go. Hailing from Reggio Emilia, he rose to worldwide fame with the 2002 release of his enormous chart-topping hit single “Satisfaction.” It was with that tune that he initiated a new genre of music dubbed as Electro, which earned him the crown “Godfather of Electro.” The demand for Benassi as a DJ is incredible and he headlines major festivals and venues around the world, including performances at this year’s Ultra Music Festival in Miami following SXSW and major North American clubs including Pacha in New York and Government in Toronto. Benassi’s previous album releases include 2003's Hypnotica (featuring "No Matter What You Do" and "Love is Gonna Save Us") as Benny Benassi presents The Biz, 2004's Pumphonia (whose singles "Illusion" and "Hit My Heart" became massive European hits), 2005’s …Phobia as the Benassi Brothers and 2008's Rock N Rave (featuring Iggy Pop, Black Box and Mia J).

Acclaimed singer/songwriter Bob Schneider will release his 11th solo studio album, A Perfect Day, on Tuesday, April 19 on Kirtland Records. The Austin-based performer has become known for his candid and razor-sharp lyrics as well as his unique blend of rock, country, folk, blues, pop and funk and this rings true for A Perfect Day. Schneider kiddingly describes the new album as containing “more of the same great stuff that I’ve been putting out for years.” The first track and single “Let The Light In” weaves in references to the Wicked Witch and the Tin Man from The Wizard of Oz and according to Schneider, “I’m perplexed about where this stuff comes from, but I imagine the Wicked Witch is some representation of an ex, who is finally ready to go out and have some fun.” Other stand outs include “Another Bad Idea” (the subject is love), “Everything You Love” (he sings “God will destroy/Everything you love/If you live long enough”) and “Penelope Cruz,” where he longs for a love that’s out of reach (“I wanna make a baby with Elizabeth Taylor/Around 19 and 57”) and reveals: “I wanna fall in love like I was falling off the face of the earth/I wanna fall forever/But every day/My dreams seem farther and farther away.” Since his 1999 solo debut, Schneider has won 24 Austin Music Awards, including “Best Singer-Songwriter,” “Best Band,” “Best Vocals” and “Musician of the Year” and earned critical praise plus a strong live following. His last album, 2009’s Lovely Creatures featured the hit “40 Dogs (Like Romeo and Juliet).” Bob’s songs have been heard in films including Gunshy, Miss Congeniality, Jay & Silent Bob Strike Back, 40 Days & 40 Nights and Secrets of the Ya-Ya Sisterhood.

Widely known across the electronic/dance realm for their wild remixes, which have included nearly 50 reworked tracks for Mariah Carey, Annie, Thieves Like Us, Little Boots, Fischerspooner, Chiddy Bang, The Klaxons and more, New York City’s Designer Drugs will perform material from their debut album Hardcore/Softcore released February 22 on Ultra Music. Where past productions and remixes have been on the poppier end of the musical spectrum, Hardcore/Softcore conjures up a darker, edgier vibe—think the throbbing, industrial-heavy opening club scene in The Doom Generation—yet still retains a melodic center on many of the tracks. The grinding, pounding beat of club bangers "Face Melter" and "The Terror" provide contrast to the pop vocals of Norwegian singer Annie on "Crazy For You" and fist-pumping up-tempo anthem "Into The Light." Elsewhere, the classic electro-funk of "Leather Gang" sits comfortably against the Italo-shoegaze of "For All We Know." With its visually psychedelic video that features Designer Drugs’ Michael Vincent Patrick and Theodore Paul Nelson along with the track’s vocalist Brooklyn rapper Cerebral Vortex, the album’s first single “Through The Prism” is a quintessential new electro gem. The video for the album’s next single—the punishing electro-industrial punk track—“Dead Meat” will make its debut on March 22 via Prefix.com.

Audio-visual turntablist extraordinaire, DJ Yoda is set to release a brand new five-track EP entitled DJ Yoda & Friends on March 7, 2011 via A.Skillz’ Jam City label in North America. Taken from his exclusive album sessions, the EP follows DJ YODA’s groundbreaking Stop, Look & Listen Tour, which saw him mashing audio and visual elements across the U.K., conquering various venues including the celebrated British Film Institute IMAX in London. On the DJ YODA & FRIENDS EP— the follow-up to his 2006 debut album The Amazing Adventures Of DJ Yoda—the master producer teams with a unique cast of characters. Rappers Izza Kizza, a vocalist from super-producer Timbaland's stable, and Gotty Boi Chris, a key figure in the very hot New Orleans Bounce scene, along with DJ/producers A.Skillz, Hervé and Nick Thayer are DJ YODA’s cohorts on these five brand new tracks. His seminal, Sony Radio Award-nominated How To Cut & Paste series showcased a tongue-in-cheek mixing style that prompted Q magazine in his native Britain to declare him “one of the ten DJs to see before you die,” while Hip Hop Connection voted him “one of the top three DJs in the world.”

The Grammy Award-winning British band–vocalist Steve Smith with producers/instrumentalists Paul Harris and Ben Harris (no relation)–are ready to capture the international dance floor once again with their new studio album Electric Love due out April 26, 2011 (Om Records). It marks the explosive return of the group that broke barriers between pop and electronica with their seminal track “Days Go By.” The album’s first single “Electric Love,” with its bass-heavy, dance floor stomp, is now making waves with its video featuring actress Jena Malone (The Soloist, Donnie Darko). The next single “Changes” will be released on March 9. In Austin, look for the Dirty Vegas band to perform material from Electric Love including “Pressure,” (a propulsive tribal groove that slams like the group never left), “Little White Doves” and “Emma,” where guitar riffs and twittering synths flirt like natural bedfellows.

Los Angeles’ She Wants Revenge takes on Austin in support of their new self-produced album Valley Heart set for release May 24. The band, who is Justin Warfield (vocals, guitars, keyboards) and Adam Bravin (bass guitar, keyboards, guitar, drum machine, percussion, programming, vocals), along with Thomas Froggart (guitars) and Scott Ellis (drums), has taken their varied musical influences and created for their third album a body of work that reflects their musical evolution. Valley Heart’s songs root from North Hollywood, the San Fernando Valley suburban enclave, finding mastery at their chosen pursuit and moving beyond their limitations, be it geographic or metaphorical. The music is dark and brooding, yet with a beautiful longing sheen…just check out the first single “Take The World” and its video directed by Bravin.

At SXSW, LA’s electro-indie band—comprised of Leisha Hadley (keys/bass) and Camila Grey (keys/guitar)—will perform songs from their forthcoming new album Nocturnes due out later this year. For the follow-up to their 2008 debut album Common Reaction, the pair tap into old rock influences, making a conscious effort to embrace the beauty in imperfection, rather than put a high gloss shine over things like vocals and rhythms. The dreamy, shadowy subject matter, coupled with late-night recording sessions, helped inform the title of the album. Nocturnes was produced by longtime friend Wendy Melvoin, formerly of Prince and the Revolution, and recorded at her personal studio space, located within the famed Henson Studios compound in Los Angeles. Mixed by Tchad Blake and mastered by Adam Ayan at Gateway, the album’s “Same High” was written for and featured in the Oscar nominated film The Kids Are All Right.
