HUFFINGTON POST TODAY DEBUTS
DAVE STEWART’S “RAINING IN MY HEART” VIDEO
HONORING BUDDY HOLLY
STEWART,
A BUDDY HOLLY EDUCATIONAL FOUNDATION
LIFETIME LEGACY ARTIST,
PAYS TRIBUTE TO BUDDY TODAY (SEPTEMBER 7, 2012)
ON WHAT WOULD HAVE BEEN HOLLY’S 76TH BIRTHDAY
While the “Day the Music Died” might have marked Buddy Holly’s death, his legacy continues to thrive. The past two years have seen Holly honored with a six-disc career retrospective, a pair of best-selling tribute albums, and two Grammy nominations for works inspired or created by the Icon of Rock and Roll. Now Dave Stewart, founder of the internationally respected Eurythmics, songwriter, guitarist, producer and humanitarian, adds his special homage to Buddy Holly with his approach and version of a song Buddy made famous – “Raining in My Heart.” Stewart’s uniquely creative version of the song and his simple but affecting “Raining in My Heart” video exclusively debuted today on The Huffington Post (http://www.huffingtonpost.com/jon-chattman/asides-exclusive-dave-ste_b_1864983.html) via asidesmusic.com (September 7, 2012), which would have been Holly’s 76th birthday.
“When I received the ‘Raining In My Heart’ guitar as a gift from the Foundation I was overwhelmed and knew I wanted to give something in return,” says Dave Stewart. “It dawned on me that I drive past the ‘Buddy Holly Drive’sign every day on the way to my idea factory/studio and that his Star on Hollywood Walk of Fame (placed last year on his 75th birthday) is just around the corner. I recorded the song live in Nashville and then simply had my journey from home to work filmed whilst driving my 1957 Studebaker. I’m a crazy Buddy Holly Fan so it was an honor.”
Peter Bradley, Chairman of The Buddy Holly Educational Foundation, said “Dave Stewart was an easy choice for us. So few artists have followed so closely in Buddy’s footsteps by excelling not only in singing and songwriting, but also production, performing, arranging, orchestration as well as the skills that set Buddy apart. Furthermore, Dave’s commitment to humanitarian causes mirrors Buddy’s devotion to making a difference not just in music, but in people’s lives, from Dave’s work with the Nelson Mandela project to his commitment to the Foundation’s goals of honoring Buddy’s legacy and his dream that all young people should have a chance to better their lives through musical education. This video is an important step towards those goals.”
