![]() Following this past May’s release of Electronica Vol 2: The Heart Of Noise and 2015’s Electronica Vol 1: The Time Machine, French electronic music pioneer JEAN-MICHEL JARRE has set out on the ELECTRONICA WORLD TOUR. This past weekend, JEAN-MICHEL JARRE began the expedition with a headlining slot at SONAR (June 17) in Barcelona, at which he performed brand new music from his two-part ELECTRONICA album live for the first time. In total, the show included special JMJ edits of his catalogue specifically created for SONAR, including his much-noted Edward Snowden collaboration “Exit” and of course his classic “Oxygene.”
With the success of the SONAR performance, JEAN-MICHEL JARRE will continue his live debut of ELECTRONICA at other major venues across Europe including 02 Arena in London and AccorHotels Arena in Paris. He will play further dates in Germany, Scandinavia, Poland, Austria, Switzerland and many more. See all of JARRE’s official dates here. Look for him to arrive stateside in 2017.
The French producer’s most current track story from the ELECTRONICA project is in collaboration with Julia Holter and was premiered on FACT. The piece makes note to mention JMJ’s praise of Holter’s sound, which has been the general tone of admiration he has had of each collaborator: “Jarre holds nothing back in his praise of Holter, calling her “a futuristic angel” who is ‘somewhere between Björk, Kate Bush and Laurie Anderson‘ while comparing her work to musique concrète.”
JEAN-MICHEL JARRE has also recently been featured in NPR‘s “All Things Considered,” discussing with Tim Grieving the many collaborators on his most recent project, ELECTRONICA. Listen to and read the full piece, here. Further, in light of the Orlando shootings, JMJ has taken part in this week’s (June 24) Billboard magazine cover project, in an effort to get artists and musicians together in the national fight against gun violence. About JEAN-MICHEL JARRE:
JEAN-MICHEL JARRE has been one of the pioneering forces throughout the electronic music scene over the last four decades, having originally made his name in the 1970s for his critically acclaimed album OXYGENE. OXYGENE was unmistakably a catalyst that set electronic music well on its way to becoming the behemoth that it is today, with JEAN-MICHEL’s music and follow through albums (Equinoxe, Magnetic Fields, RendezVous, Chronology) breaking down boundaries of composing and production paving the path for what has become today the most popular genre of music of all time. With over 80 million albums sold worldwide to date, musicians and contemporary DJs often refer to JARRE’s influence and innovation, not only for his music but also for his singular vision and creation of outdoor concerts experience. JEAN-MICHEL JARRE’s legendary concerts have attracted Guinness Record-breaking audiences, with his live shows often, if not always, taking place in some of the most extraordinary settings worldwide. He was the first western musician ever to be invited to perform in post-Mao China, and has also played the likes of the Great Pyramids in Egypt, The Sahara Desert and The Eiffel Tower in addition to perhaps his most famous performance ever, where he played to a record 3.5 million people in Moscow. All in all, JARRE has held Guinness World Records for the largest live audiences over the continents. JEAN-MICHEL JARRE is synonymous with the legendary as he continues to break new ground with each piece of music and live performance.
