IT’S ‘LIGHTS OUT’ AGAIN WITH STEVE LAWLER; UK DJ SETS OFF ON NORTH AMERICAN TOUR THIS WINTER IN SUPPORT OF ‘LIGHTS OUT 2’; DUE OUT ON GLOBAL UNDERGROUD NOVEMBER 4
Winner BEST DJ – Tech/House/Progressive DJ Awards (Ibiza) 2003
When STEVE LAWLER released his first Lights Out compilation album on Global Underground last year, U.K.’s clubbers guide Loaded magazine described the music as, “…what’s playing in a club when you are having druggy sex in the toilets…it’s absolutely brilliant!” Kicking off at Release in San Francisco on November 21, the revered British DJ from Birmingham will set off on a two week trek across North America to bring his Lights Out club experience stateside in support of the compilations’ follow-up LIGHTS OUT 2, due out on Global Underground November 4.
A clubber at heart, Steve is the consummate turntable artist and his new Lights Out 2 is a perfect taste of his experience. Heavily tinged with party gems that have been working the hottest dance- floors across the world, the two-CD set oozes its way in and out of sexy grooves, achingly cool house monster tracks and racy house anthems. Disc one notables include Diamond Dogs feat. Mary Tanning’s “Nothing Else,” the chunky funky “Movin On” from Danusha and Andrea Doria’s mix of Paul Johnson’s awesome club smash “Follow This Beat” with Polekat’s “Dancin’ Queen” keeping the tempo racing. All this and more ensure this is one CD that won’t be leaving the car stereo for months.
Renowned for adding his own personal touches to tracks and making them unique much like his sets, disc two showcases his now legendary “Lights Out Intro featuring Underworld” personalized intro that began a very memorable Harlem Night’s set with in February this year. Things heat up even more with ‘get the girls on the dance floor’ stompers by DJ Pierre Vs David Morales with “Make It Hot” and classics such as Alcatraz “Give Me Love” combined with the electro-edged Eric Kaufmann Vs Jet’s “My Girlfriend Is a Robot.” The journey ends on an exclusive high with his own ‘nip & tuck edit’ of Jaydee’s “Plastic Dreams,” one of the most emotive and memorable dance tracks of all time.
Most recently, Steve Lawler–known to European club enthusiasts as ‘The King Of Space’ for his coveted residency at Ibiza’s most famous club Space–won the prestigious title of ‘Best DJ (Tech/House/Progressive)’ for 2003 at the DJ Awards ceremony in Ibiza Friday, September 26. This deserving title comes as no surprise as Steve is continually acquiring more ardent fans seduced by his exuberance, energy, technical brilliance and sparkle that come from his innate love of the music.
