AVAILABLE TODAY!
May 28, 2013 – JOHN FOGERTY’s video for his new single “Mystic Highway” world premieres today (Tuesday, May 28) across all CMT platforms–CMT, CMT Pure, CMT.com and CMT Mobile. The song is taken from the Grammy Award-winning Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee’s much-anticipated new album WROTE A SONG FOR EVERYONE, released today on his birthday and which has received Rolling Stone magazine’s highest rating—a rare 5 stars—in a lead review in the current issue: http://www.rollingstone.com/music/albumreviews/wrote-a-song-for-everyone-20130523?stop_mobi=yes
The reflective and joyous country rocking FOGERTY composition “Mystic Highway” is one of two new songs on WROTE A SONG FOR EVERYONE. A celebration of FOGERTY’s iconic songbook, the album is a collection of 14 songs: 12 classics and deep tracks (Creedence Clearwater Revival and solo material) from his remarkable canon of hits recorded in collaboration with today’s biggest superstars from the country, pop and rock worlds, plus two brand new solo songs.
The “Mystic Highway” video was directed by Bill Fishman, known for directing the film Tapeheads and videos for such artists as Kid Rock, The Ramones and Wilco. As FOGERTY rolls down the highway–shot in the rustic hills of Southern California–he movingly reflects on his life and journey, with archival footage and photos of him as a young man integrated throughout the video. Appearing with him and playing acoustic guitar is his son Shane Fogerty (who also performs on the track). In the liner notes for WROTE A SONG FOR EVERYONE, Fogerty says about “Mystic Highway”:
“I’ve had the idea for this song for a long, long time. I wrote this phrase into my songwriting notebook twenty or thirty years ago. In the beginning, I didn’t know how the music would go, but I sure knew what the story was. I pictured a group of travelers, perhaps an extended family, standing on the road with their faces to the sky. They’re worn, but not weary. They are in constant motion along their journey of destiny. They don’t know exactly where or how long they’ll be traveling, but they do understand that the end of the road, wherever that is, will be worth the trip.”

Tonight, FOGERTY–one of rock’s most important artists and a national treasure who’s sold over 100 million albums–will perform a sold-out, one-night-only album release and birthday bash concert the El Rey in Los Angeles. The intimate show, which starts at 8:30 PM Pacific time, will be filmed and broadcast live on AXS TV and also simulcast on legendary radio station KLOS (95.5fm in Los Angeles) and available to stream worldwide at www.955klos.com
In fact, radio has been embracing WROTE A SONG FOR EVERYONE in a big way. In its first week of availability, every song from the 14-track album was played at radio…a feat repeated in week #2 and week #3. Last week, iheartradio hosted Fogerty an hour long concert in New York City promoted across 133 Clear Channel stations and that Q104.3 simulcast in full—which was unprecedented. Sirius XM has featured album and interview content across channels and is promoting an extended live interview between FOGERTY and renowned DJ Jim Ladd on their Classic Vinyl channel Wednesday, May 29th at 6pm PT. FOGERTY is also the current guest on Marc Maron’s WTF podcast. The single “Mystic Highway” has already garnered early airplay across the country, with the song being the #1 Most Requested song at KCSN in Los Angeles.
WROTE A SONG FOR EVERYONE marks the singer, songwriter and guitarist’s ninth studio solo album since disbanding Creedence Clearwater Revival. Mixed by Bob Clearmountain, it was recorded in Los Angeles and Nashville except for “Proud Mary” which was recorded in New Orleans with Allen Toussaint and the Rebirth Brass Band. FOGERTY recorded “Fortunate Son” with Foo Fighters at their 606 studio using “the” legendary Neve recording console featured in the #1 iTunes documentary Sound City.
On the concert front, JOHN FOGERTY is set for two festival appearances. At Interlocken, the four-day event September 5 – 8 at Oak Ridge Farm at the foot of the Blue Ridge in Central Virginia, he will perform a special set with Widespread Panic featuring his classic songs from the Creedence Clearwater Revival era. He will also perform at Zac Brown Band’s Southern Ground Music & Food Festival taking place in Nashville at The Lawn at Riverfront Park on September 27 and 28.
Early Critical Praise for WROTE A SONG FOR EVERYONE:
“The result is some of the best new music Fogerty has made since, well, Creedence. His singing is strong and engaged, even scalding when he goes up against Kid Rock in ‘Born on the Bayou,’ and the current state of Fogerty’s guitar playing is summed up in his shootout with country picker Brad Paisley in ‘Hot Rod Heart.’… “Looking back at these songs, in this company, has brought out a fire and nerve in Fogerty. He sounds as renewed in these performances as the riffs and stories.”
–David Fricke, ROLLING STONE June 6, 2013 (five star review)
“As the genius behind Creedence Clearwater Revival and as a solo act, John Fogerty’s influence runs deep through American popular music. The breadth of his impact shows in the guest list for Wrote a Song for Everyone…Whether Fogerty’s swapping vocals with Bob Seger or guitar licks with Brad Paisley, he meets his collaborators at their stylistic crossroads. Each track sounds like it could fit on one of the guest’s albums as easily as Fogerty’s, no small feat when country singer Miranda Lambert and Rage Against the Machine guitarist Tom Morello appear on the same song.”
–Brian Mansfield, USA Today, May 28, 2013
“…Fogerty didn’t just re-energize these songs, he transformed many of them into something completely new…”
–Lynne Margolis, AMERICANSONGWRITER.COM, May 14, 2013
“…arguably the most mesmerizing collaboration on the record ‘Almost Saturday Night’…from John and Keith Urban, who truly shines on the vocal. Zac Brown Band leads a much more countrified version of ‘Bad Moon Rising,’ which could surely be a country hit in these days and times, while Miranda sounds perfectly matched for John ‘s swampy style on the title cut….this [album] should be a must for Fogerty followers.”
–Bob Paxman, COUNTRY WEEKLY, May 27, 2013
“The set gets off to an explosive start with “Fortunate Son,” featuring the Foo Fighters. One of the great ‘60s anti-war anthems, it raged when Creedence recorded it and it’s a natural fit for the serious horsepower Dave Grohl & Co. bring to it today… The two new, guest-free songs, “Train Of Fools” and “Mystic Highway,” aren’t out of place at all—in fact, they bode well for whatever’s next from this resilient American music icon.”
–Jeff Tamarkin, RELIX.COM, May 23, 2013
“…he sounds like he’s having the time of his life, and nearly every guest here helps add fresh blood to the tracks.”
