“… a successful blend of reggae, drum/bass and rock. It is simple, yet sophisticated music that walks the same roads travelled by most reggae artists since the early 70's.”
–Enyi Emesih, okayplayer.com (11/4/10)
With the upcoming release of his debut album WE ARE ONE November 11 on RumBum Records, Miami-based reggae artist Kēvens (Kee-venz) is making the track “Freedom for Humanity” available as a free download on his website at www.kevens.com. He’s also celebrating the occasion with a special record release party Saturday, November 27 at Founders Park in Islamorada, FL.
A dynamic live performer, Kēvens has shared stages with a variety of performers including Carlos Santana, Jimmy Cliff, Steven Tyler, Third World, Run DMC, Chuck Berry and Moby; he’s also an annual staple of the Ultra Music Festival in Miami. For his Founders Park show, he’ll be joined by his band: Jonathan Rix on drums, David Goldfine on bass, Benjamin Hovey on keyboards and trumpet, and Ronny Gutierrez on guitar.
Produced by Grammy-Award winner Bob Rosa (Michael Jackson, Gloria Estefan, Duran Duran), WE ARE ONE is an album that indeed finds KĒVENS fusing his reggae roots into a panorama of unexpected rhythms and ideas, coming up with a sound truly like no other. The album’s first single “Break Down The Walls”—a verbal take on the artist’s view of spirituality for all—is just starting to percolate at radio with early spins from KBOO in Portland.
From the deep dub groove of conscious party scorcher “Open Your Eyes” to the hardcore crunch of “How Could You”—and a plethora of radical reggae re-workings—WE ARE ONE has a genuine musical statement that needs to be heard. Everything associated with KĒVENS begins and ends with a simple yet so powerfully profound statement of purpose: Positivity is a necessity.
