As the first annual trek of "The Family Values" tour concludes on October 31, KORN have announced their own headlining tour of North America and Canada launching November 2 in connection with their platinum FOLLOW THE LEADER (Immortal/Epic) album. KORN will also be part of next year's "Big Day Out" tour in Australia from January 15-31.
Before their U.S. headlining trek gets underway, fans worldwide will have the opportunity to be a part of "The Family Values" experience via an MTV special that's set to air on Halloween (Saturday, October 31) at 11:00 PM ET/PT. Portions of sets by KORN, Rammstein, Ice Cube, Limp Bizkit and Orgy were taped along the tour route. Footage not included in the MTV special will be seen and heard on a home video and live album that are set for release early 1999 on Immortal/Epic.
KORN–JONATHAN (vocals, bagpipes), FIELDY (bass), MUNKY (guitars), HEAD (guitars) and DAVID (drums)–have always been known to be a band that lives for the support of their fans. These loyal fans will do anything and go anywhere to see the band, even if it means closing down streets and standing in line in their hometown for hours at a time. This is what KORN's "Kampaign' 98" promotional trek was all about, which also proved to be a driving force that helped the album debut at #1 on Billboard's album chart. It was also a historical undertaking for KORN. The official tally for fans who turned out for KORN's "Kampaign `98" trail of 21-stops-in-16-days was 54,000.
Meanwhile, here are some critical soundbites from the press about KORN's current live show:
"The group's live show has always been its biggest strength…and perpetual touring has honed the group's attack to a razor-sharp edge. Over the years, Korn's harsher elements have become more biting, and the grooves underpinning all the angst more sinuous."
–Sandy Masuo, Los Angeles Times
"…live the group played with an earnest fury that threatened to bring down the house. The amazingly clear sound helped intensify the blistering drum beats of David Silveria, and the original guitar textures of James `Munky' Shaffer and Brian `Head' Welch. In numbers like `It's On!' or `Dead Bodies Everywhere' the players refigured metal's basic attack, avoiding the thick whomping riffs of old for tighter jabs modeled on the dynamics of acts like Cypress Hill. It's a more fitful sound than any heavy guitar rock before it. As such, Korn didn't just lift from hip-hop, they reinterpreted it, giving metal an imposing new mold."
-Jim Farber, New York Daily News
"delivered the goods…by accelerating out of the box with a savage confluence of heavy metal, rap, and primal screaming from singer Jonathan Davis. The Southern California band of misfits opened with its recent hit, `Got The Life,' then got busy with the growling `It's On!' and the over-the-top `Children Of The Korn,' detailing ab attle between parents and their kids, concluding with Davis' bellow of `All I want to do is live!' He was also joined by Ice Cube, whose expletive-laced chant was a vengeful cry for freedom. The signature song also featured the unveiling of a steel cage to the rear of the stage, holding radio contest winners who shimmied and danced and helped fire Korn to even greater heights."
–Steve Morse, Boston Globe
